gman, can you post some pictures? I'm sure others are curious as to how you made it fit.

I just upgraded my e-start on the 2014 gas gas to the 2017 model. Mine made a hell of a noise when first using it and the motor was getting hot. If the bendix is too tight in the bushes in the engine case it will bind and won't have the inertia to "fly out". I removed the bendix, dabbed some light grease in the bush and its fine.

Incidentally - if anyone wants to know how to fit a 2017 e-start to a 2014 ec300 (i.e. replace the rubbish unit) without changing the crank case get in touch. I designed a spacer ring and have a drawing I can send of the part to be machined.

Gary (UK)

Hi Gary, could you send it to me, my mail is giovannifiorita@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance

Ok, a mates 2015 blew the bendix apart and cracked the main cover slightly. I got the cover welded by my weldy guy. A bit of gear tooth got jammed and caused the crack.

But the initial problem is this; the outer cover there is a plain drilling in ally that a steel shaft spins in unlubricated. As you can see it has ovalise, and pushing the shaft away got some angle and boom. Zoom in and you'll see.

So I've made a big to hold it straight and will bore, fit a thin 8mm x 6mm ID bush. It's pretty thin but with care should be fine.

Part 2. Bike shop he bought it from experiments with blocking the drain hole in lower cover and running a small amount of fork oil in there, enough of a puddle to get dragged around by flywheel and lubricate things. We'll be trying that.

That's just some scrap ally spacers and 5mm screws with tapped holes in plate. Needs to be held flat so I can run an 8mm mill bit into it.

Here's the bendix. Not pretty. Or cheap.
