In this part of the world i think it is better value for money as all the ktm extras come as standard (map switch, headlight, etc) but you get all of those on a GG and it is cheaper!

I think you will see it on bikes co-developed by and sourced from third party vendors just like carbs, ignitions, and EFI are now. Orbital is one. The Ossa is not DI, just conventional EFI applied to a 2stroke. The slanted motor is a good bet though as you will need room on the head for the HP injector. What you won't need is a big bulky damage prone expansion chamber, a major plus.

expansion pipe allows for more efficient fuel burn - burning unburnt fuel via pulses.
my assumption would be direct injection can inject multiple bursts to simulate exhaust pulses. but without a chamber how would it 'supercharge/compress' the air as a chamber does? or maybe i'm way off :) anyways, i would think that gasgas would eventually have direct injection - they did hire Pierluigi Marconi who headed up the design team of the ill fated bimota v-due.... i'm assuming he's still there - i believe he designed the side valve trials motor.... there are several direct injection motors on the market - the e-tec being one of them... |
The purpose of an expansion chamber is to create a shock wave in the reverse direction from the initial exhaust pulse when the exhaust port opens. This returning pressure pulse keeps the intake charge in the cylinder. All the magic is in how this is tuned. In a DI 2stroke, the fuel is injected under high pressure AFTER the port is closed on the piston's way back up to TDC. So, no shock wave needed. This is also why emissions are low. No big pipe needed but a high pressure injection system, ECU, etc. are.

All more reasons why a DI 2 smoke would be amazing.
