2011 seat
Is there anyone that make a softer seat for the newer bikes? I was hoping EE would do one since I think Alan is riding a Gasser now...........
Edit- I just saw that EE does sell the soft seat foam and covers, just no complete seat. Looks like I'll go that route. |
I've got a brand new unused soft seat foam that came with my new bike (2011ec250) that I don't need. Make me an offer.

Here are some picks. How about $35 plus shipping?

Do not waste your money on the soft foam from EE. It comes in a package from factory effex. It was very soft and thin and did not fit well. You felt like you were sitting directly on the seat pan. It was nowhere near the quality of their KTM seats.
I ended up going with the Guts tall soft and it is much better than stock. It is a little narrower than stock but the best option I found. |

Funny thing is the stock seat looks like it would be very comfortable. I like a seat that is kind of flat and wide. I am not sure how they made it so uncomfortable. |
Is the tall/soft that much taller or does it squish down a fair amount when sitting? I've got a 30 inch inseam and can not quite touch flatfooted on my bike.
|
It squishes down quite a bit but I am a fat guy.
If I were shorter I would get the standard low from Guts or EE. |
if you look at the GG seat you will notice the tank sits quite far underneath it meaning there is not much space for foam so if you go with softer foam you will be sitting on the tank!
best thing to do is what the pros say/do stand!:) |
I do stand, but in the east coast tight tight singletrack you will be sitting for sure through quite a few sections.

I just ordered a std Guts medium, and comp style seat cover. I never really had any issues with the stock seat except for the cover tearing at the knee points and over time it has also worn the foam out in this area due to water ingress and friction.
Hope the guts is just as good or better. Any tips for instalation? Do you need to use glue? I have an electric staple gun. |
I have a guts tall soft seat. You should be fine with an electric staplegun. I didn't use any glue but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to use some. I think that I had to trim off some of the excess but I'm not sure. I LOVE MY SEAT! The stocker was killing me ( I know, I sit down too much). You'll like the new seat it really is more comfortable than the stocker.:D

You beauty! I'll have a mate help me out and post some pics when done!

Your welcome! Waiting on the photos....

Some people put plastic on the foam before putting the cover on to keep the foam from getting wet. |
I think the plastic would only help initially keeping water out, but once water is in it would stay wet much longer. I don't think I'll worry with that. Top tip about heating it up!
|
I've had the Guts tall soft for 2 years now and its the way to go if you're
5'9" or more. I have never used glue on any seat I have done and I've done a bunch. |
I'm only 5 feet 8 57⁄64 inches :D Thus didn't go the tall. I was seriously considering it but I don't really have an issue with seat to peg distances. I don't sit often really. Most terrain I ride is too rough to sit through without getting beat up. Now if I could get those footpegs up a couple inches it'd make life much easier in the ruts. Its a horrible feeling coming in hot and feeling like your feet are going to touch the ground.
Got any pics bukwheat? |

That Guts seat cover looks very nice.
Did your seat come with the top bolt at the rear for attachment or did you modify it? On a side note has anyone ever tried the seat covers from StompGrip? http://www.stompdesign.com/ ***WARNING*** this photo contains an UGLY color that may burn your eyes. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8e81b02c.png |
My seat came with the top bolt at the rear for attachment.
|
WA.GG - It was only 2012/2013 models that moved the seat retaining bolt to the underside. A few people here have modified theirs to bolt in from the top though. Its much easier to access.

I have seen that you can buy a kit. But really don't want to spend the extra $$. And have not had luck finding a DIYer on this forum yet. You or anyone else done it? |
