December 3 and 29 Colorado Trail Rides

3 Attachment(s)
December has been a good month for riding here in Colorado! I was able to make it out twice on the GG at the Rampart Range OHV area with both days running almost 60 degrees! The pictures pretty much capture the terrain: Wooded with decomposed granite (gravel) in the woods. There was a little snow here and there but nothing to even think about. For those that are not familiar with Co. Rampart OHV area is just west of Sedalia, Co (birth place of Moose Racing if I remember correctly) and it has many miles of "worn out" trails. The early December ride was great and came across the father of a WEC bound local Colorado Racer who noticed my (formerly Boomhauer's) Nambotin's 2007 WEC bike from North America...Yesterday's ride was almost as good (no snow left so dust was a slight problem) but awesome as it was December 29th! On the trail I ran into a 2011 GG 300 piloted by the "Dirt Cheap Cycles" (Colorado GG dealer) owner...Just about every time out this year I ran into a GG and there has not been a "stocking dealer" near Denver for many years! I expect next year there will be more GGs in the Colorado woods! This may be the last ride until spring!

there are still places to ride here in colorado- i was just out today. Main OHV area in the Pawnee grasslands. It gets kind of boring after a while but it is much better than no riding at all

Mudwasp,

Did you go to Mark's trials this past weekend up there? I've known Mark since the late '90s and he's in one of the other set of pictures I posted from the fall. When are you going to get your 300?

We were at the trial event at the main OHV area, i'll have to look at the pix to see if it is the Mark that we know. We did not compete- just rode around with all those people. We are not used to having to share that many people.
I found out that the bikes should be to GGOR at the end of february, so sometime in march. I have patience, and a couple other bikes i can ride( Pampera and a KDX220) so the wait will not be excruciating.I am amassing all the guards and the final pieces to get it inspected so i can license it. I was extremely lucky to have gotten an opportunity to ride a 2011 xc 250 on actual trails, and am looking forward to the 300. Cheers, we may run into you on the trails! we ride nearly every weekend and whenever we can get off work.

Mudwasp,

The Mark who set up the trials is tall and very thin (6' 3" and 135 lbs!). He was probably riding his Honda TLM 2 stroker (Honda's version of the Pampera from the mid 80s) or his Honda 250 Dual Purpose bike. You will be very happy with the 300 as they are "similar" to KDX: Very easy to trail ride but also very easy to race and go fast on! My wife and I have had GG 300s for almost 10 years so we have some experience with them! I am planning on some rides this year where I'm trying to get as many GGs to show up as possible. Last year we had 4 GGs on one ride and I would like to beat that this year! 10 maybe? It will be possible with the new dealers on the front range, I believe. You and your husband (and anyone else) are welcome to join us as we run the entire range of age (30 to 70+ years old) and experience (fairly new riders). Alas, my wife does not dirt bike anymore as she has switched to a quad...

That's not the Mark we know, but it's funny how quickly everyone gets to know each other around here. Good chance you may see us out riding- we are out pretty much every weekend and whenever we can get off during the week.Dirtbiking is cheaper than bars! and you have something to show for your money, for instance i have a very lovely bruised elbow from last weeknds get off, better than a hangover any day!
