Gear shifting issue (false neutral) after overheat

3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I just wanted to share my recent issue and how it was solved.
My bike is 2018 EC300. 80h+.

After a tough hot weather ride, mostly uphill with a lot of clutching I started to experience frequent false neutrals. Moreover, in 50% of cases, I was not able to switch the second gear on a first attempt.

The issue was in damaged plastic scorpion centerer (ME250236041):

I have recovered sizes, they are not 100% precise as it was not possible to measure everything from damaged detail, however, it worked brilliant.

Sizes:

After that, the same part was made from brass to prevent the issue from happening again.
It really works more precisely than it was on a new bike IMO :)

Hope it will help someone :)
Cheers

Yes, it is available in Germany, I have seen it but don't know the p/n.

I have just seen that the part number for the 2019 model is ME250236041 while the one oleg mentioned was ME256236041. maybe they have already changed it for a metal one...

Brilliant! Thanks for your insights! Was replacing the bushing a lot of work or is it an easy job?

It's quite easy. You need to remove the clutch cover and right side cover. We have removed the clutch also because we were searching for an issue at first :) I think it is optional.

So in general not harder than to replace a clutch.
There was also a vid on youtube how to put scorpion spring back, it is not that straightforward, but still easy when you saw/get it :)

Sorry, it was mistake. I will edit my post.
It is ME250236041 which is same starting from 2000 year. I have searched all previous and next years to check is there any chance to find the metal one.

The four strokes had a metal one, I used to just spin one up on the lathe. Easy job and it will not get damage if you smack the gear lever on a rock.

Many thanks. I will have a look at the video. Think it is not necessary to remove the clutch. To remove the inner cover is not a big deal.

I talked to a dealer in Germany yesterday and he says he has one left which is made from metal. He will ship it with my next order. Thought it can't be a bad idea to have it in my spare parts box :-)

The dealer said that generally he has had no issues with the plastic bushings so far and he never saw one damaged like yours...

It was really a long uphill ride with like +30 degrees celsius with almost no place for rest :D ~1h+

At the top, I noticed that few drops of sweat on my gearbox evaporated immediately with corresponding sound. So I believe it was really high temperature.
