Adjusting sag

I want to add @ 10 mm of sag to my shock.
Approx. how many turns of the nut would that take ?

Hi Brian,
Not sure you will get a concrete answer here. It depends on your weight and the rate of your spring...

I suppose you're right. I was just hoping for a ballpark to reduce the # of times I'll have to bother the wife to help measure. :D

Put a black mark on the top ring you use to crank down the preload. measure sag. rotate ring one full turn measure again. Thats your answer. I think I got 1/8 inch or 1/16th for every turn. Here is another tip. to dial in more preload put the bike on a stand so no weight is on the rear. Grab spring and rotate spring in what ever direction you want to go. The top ring will rotate right along with the spring. This will work until you get the preload really cranked up. This keeps you from having to beat up the top ring with a punch, until the very end. Or if you not that heavy not at all.

Like I said, the wife isn't gonna stand there while I dick around.
I ended up backing it off about 2 turns and just called it good enough.
It seemed pretty good yesterday. I got 1st ! :D

I made a custom tool for spinning the ring, no banging. Basically a plastic coated pry bar with an end ground to catch the notches well. You just pry against the frame. A tire iron can be used in a pinch if the spring trick doesn't work.

Next ride when your all geared up, you and your buddies check each others race sag.
