Adjustable power valve cover
 

Hi there just been looking on this web site www.trailendurodirect.com and they have an adjustable power valve cover made by a firm called Trusty .Not a company I've heard of .Just wondered if any one has tried one .I'm looking to get my 300EC to hookup better in the wet :)

I'm sure others would be very interested (I am) in a first hand report of how well it really works. Problem is that it's so darn expensive (especially in US dollars) that it's hard to justify purchasing. If it made a HUGE change from one range to the other that would be interesting.

Someone mentioned they were used on the team GG bikes in WEC competition so maybe it does really alter the power delivery enough to help out in the extreme tests where you almost need trials bike traction sometimes.

I have a trusty adjustable powervalve cover installed an my 300 ec ,2006 model. When I first thought about getting it I was concerned about how much difference it would make,compared to the cost. Previously I had an ltr cover which seemed to help bottom end thrust with the extra capacity.But the trusty one also has the larger capacity plus the adjustability. It has 10 settings. Turned down to 6 it runs like a trials bike,. Turned back up to the zero setting it runs just like stock .And turned around to -3 it runs more like a motocross bike . Now i have a bike for every situation just with the turn of a dial .

Does anyone know how it does it?

When I first got my 300 I was always running it in rain mode cause I really liked the massive torque, but found it caused too much instant wheelspin in slippery conditions. I've found it better only in real tight high traction situations. I've since been using it in the sunny setting a lot, especially when its greasy. It really softens the off idle hit for more slow speed traction, and there is still plenty of instant power for getting over obsticles (more like a 250 feel), plus it doesn't flatten out in the upper mid revs like the rainy setting. This is assuming its jetted correctly. The LTR needle made it run a lot better all round too.

Do I take it that, no body knows how it works?

All it does is change the time the power valve opens. Just like a KTM 200. Tension the spring and it will hit earlier and lossen the spring and it will hit later.

The knob preloads a spring that is connected to the left drum valve. It either assists (opens faster) or counters (opens slower) the governer spring.

We messed around with the idea of importing the Trusty variable power valve cover a couple of years ago and found it to be a little pricey, at the time I think it would of retailed around $350 to $400 USD, and a little complicated for the average consumer as they would have to modify / replace the left power valve to install it.

Please note that we never actually installed one, as it came on one of the WEC bikes we had a couple of years ago so I'm not sure what comes with the kit or how hard they are to install other then you have to modify / replace the left power valve so the covers preload spring has something to attach to.

One problem, as we saw it, was because there was a spring either assisting or retarding the left power valve's rotation at all times it basically never had a "stock normal setting" available again as the spring always had some effect on the opening or closing of the power valve.

Another thing we weren't sure we liked was if you think about it if you wanted the power valve to open easier/sooner it would also end up closing harder/later or vis versa which would effect throttle control.

Not sure if these were good reasons not to import it other than we also had to take 20 units to get any decent pricing and we didn't feel we could sell enough of them to make it worth it.

I bought one and will soon install on my 09. I have about 40hrs on my bike bone stock except jetting so I have a good baseline to test on. I'm looking for trial type power with the option to change to a more snappy delivery.

The cover came with the full power valve assembly and instructions in another language but there is pictures. We sell a GG to a small base of customers that want nothing but the best for hard enduro riding. We live in hawaii and the terrain is definetly unique.

I'll leave a review once testing is done which should be July.
