Trail tech vapour Tach hookup

I am trying to hook up the tach wire on my vapor gauge....I attached the yellow wire under my seat to the red wire to the gauge and then grounded the black wire to the chassis.

When i fire the bike up the gauge seems to work fine at idle but when I rev the bike the gauge goes backwards.

I also tried the yellow wire that runs up to where the headlight is same thing happens

Any ideas on how to fix that?

bike is 06 EC300

I don't know about the Vapor unit, but on my Voyager tach input, I connected it at the ignition coil primary. This is the spade terminal on the coil itself. Trailtech's instructions said to wrap the wire around the high tension lead, but I wanted something a bit more solid for a connection. I verified this method with them before trying it. I did have to set the display to "tach/2" to get the correct RPM reading.

It sounds like you are referring to the power wires in your posting. Do you not have a separate wire just for the tach input? Check trailtech's web site for the instruction page (download section).

So you connected the red voyager wire to the spade connector with the yellow wire right at the coil?

I recently hooked up the vapor that I bought a few years ago for my husky. I would have to dig into it to look. I hope to get a ride in tomorrow, after I get back and clean it up I will take a look.

I got it to work by wrapping the red wire around the plug wire.

now to figure out what the correct idle rpm is to make sure it's accurate.
