Jetting masters needed...
Hey guys,
BIKE - 2005 EC300 Fresh top end 1 ride old PLUG - BP5EY 1 ride old Jetting: Pilot - 40 Mains - 172 Needle - N1EG top clip FUEL - 40:1 Motul 800 Shell Vortex 98 octane Plug is black Blows lots of smoke Spooge from barrel breather and bad from exhaust tip. It was the first time I have ever ridden the bike so I have no idea what they ride like. Most of the day ridden in 1st or 2nd gear through tight mountainous single trail at between 200 and 600 meters. Temp was about 18c Bike needed to clear itself after the tight stuff on fire trails and showed hesitation. Loads of power on the pipe but not a lot down low. Still lugged well. Started 1st kick so easily its amazing which is apparently common so I've read? I've never seen a needle on 1st clip position which I thought was the leanest yet this spooge is crazy! Thinking about this setup? 38 pilot 170 mains CCK needle 3rd pos (Maybe CCL?) 50:1 Check the pics and tell me your thoughts... Plug colour tells you nothing whatsoever. It is only useful with a controlled plug chop and only for mainjet. It's a road racing thing.
Either way get rid of that needle and you will be well on the way. However with the right needle a 42 pilot might be ok. The idea is the base diameter is too narrow so you are getting bleed of big fat wet drops up the sides of the needle at low throttle. If you block that off the pilot cct will better supply atomized fuel in this range. Keep the 40 and try a new needle in different positions. Then swap in a 42 and see what gives best off closed response. Think I tried a cel but can't remember details. Plenty of info on the jetting threads that you've no doubt looked at. |
I ran a N3eg with a 42 pilot and a 175 main. Nice and punchy and never fouled a plug on a 04 300. I?d put the proper plug in too before a hole is burnt in that piston. Br8es will be fine.

Shheeeyet, didn't see that plug. Fine for your jalopy or lawnmower.
Good call Nate. Yeah I ended up using the N3eg I believe. |

I'll give a 3rd hoorah for the N3EG 175-178 main, 40-42 pilot. Clip 3, lift if its rich. N3CG is half a clip leaner if you need to fine tune.
BR8ES cheap, easy, available. BR8EG if you have coin to waste. |
