Scorpion Linkage Skid Plate

5 Attachment(s)
This is a new product that should help protect the rear linkage as well as help riders cross over logs and rocks. The photos are of the prototype so the finish is not what the end product will look like. We plan to anodize the side plates red and engrave the Scorpion logo after. We will also be offering a lowering link version that will lower the bike 3/4" at the rear axle. Hope you like it. This product is designed for the 2012.

gasgasman 02-16-2012 10:01 PM

I could see where a "well placed" rock can do some damage to the shock clevis. Problem solved with your skid plate!

swazi_matt 02-16-2012 11:12 PM

No disrespect to the product, but I have always ridden linkage bikes and a lot of rocks and I have never seen more than a few scratches on the linkage. Not sure if the 2012 linkage is more exposed though.

I know it is always something the orange brigade harp on about when defending their suspension, but has anyone experienced any major rock damage to their linkage?

kaos 02-16-2012 11:55 PM

Yes the 2012 ( and nambo and cervantes) linkage is quite a bit lower.i will be one of the first customers

scorpionsteve 02-17-2012 12:29 AM

swazi_matt no disrespect taken. However it's not just about your linkage taking damage. I have heard with the KTM the rear link has hooked on a rocks stopping the bike dead sending the rider over the bars. The GasGas link does not hang down as much but it does hang down 1 1/2" below the bottom of our 3/16" HD Skid Plate. I think it has the potential to do the same as the KTM (sending a rider over the bars) and this is why we have invested the time and money into developing the product. Time will tell if it was worth it for us or not.

socalgasgas 02-17-2012 12:48 AM

It looks well thought out. Nice product.

noobi 02-17-2012 03:50 AM

Does the guard replace the link arms?

wence 02-17-2012 04:01 AM

How much Steve?????:D

Vindicator 02-17-2012 04:49 AM

Hi Steve.

I think it's a very good idea. Do you plan to have a distributor in Europe (Portugal) ? Is it also available for the 11' models ?

Cruiser 02-17-2012 05:50 AM

I like the product,, I can see the need.. I have caught my linkage on rocks I have gone over/cased tying to cross them like logs. But then again.. I also ripped the back 1/2 of my airbox off climbing a big ledge on my 97 250 when the shock mud guard caught between the tire and rock face.. I'm also assuming when you said it would lower 3/4 at the rear axle you meant rear of the bike to axle.. as they look rather tall now..

scorpionsteve 02-17-2012 02:17 PM

Some Answers to questions above:

Not sure on pricing yet but the target is $100.00

Yes lowering at the rear axle 3/4" if you are ordering the Lowering version.

Yes it replaces the stock links. The bushings in the stock link need to be removed and reinstalled into the Scorpion Link slid.

You really should apply for a patent on that....

thumperrider1 02-19-2012 07:22 PM

Ha! Funny. Let us know when they are ready. My bike is here this week.

thumperrider1 02-20-2012 11:21 AM

Steve, I do want one. Put me on the list and let me know when they are ready.

thumperrider1 02-27-2012 08:20 PM

Steve, when did you think you would be making a few of these?

iajim 03-03-2012 08:35 PM

Looks like a good product. Will the bike have 3/4" less suspension travel or just have less clearance between the tire and fender when fully compressed?

scorpionsteve 03-06-2012 01:54 PM

3/4 inch less clearance between the fender and tire when compressed.

Sure can. I'll take a few when I get home the 28th.

So did the link plates turn out. Was wondering who all got one and how well did it turn out. Also how much was it. I couldn't find it on scorpion web site.
Thumperrider1, where did you get the kit to do your spokes. Looks really good!

thumperrider1 07-01-2012 08:16 PM

I got the scorpion link skid and it's a nice unit.

Lookup "spokecoats" on facebook or google. The spokes are just covered with pvc. So far no troubles with them and they are not trapping junk between them and the spokes.

I totally forgot to get some pics of the scorpion setup. Will pull the bike out this week and get some.

To revive an older thread, are these still being made and are they available for the '14's? I'd like one for mine.

I too am interested in a review. Whats the deal with the 3/4" lower kit? Is it lowering seat height-which would be great. Or is it changing the rising rate? and if so did it make the suspension feel better or worse?

wence 04-30-2014 02:09 AM

I have the standard scorpion linkage skid plate , not the lowering one and it is reasonably banged up and scratched which means it is doing its' job nicely.
Not sure if they still make them , best to check the company they trade under now.... Emperor racing. Not shown on their webpage but that means nothing.
Cheers Mark

Email reply from Steve:

"We don't make the linkage skid plate for the 2014 and the 2012/2013 is not the same. We have no plans to make any for Gas Gas in the near future"

I've emailed a few other companies (Stillwell Performance/Fastway) but I'm assuming their response will be the same.

I hope the aftermarket industry picks up for the Gasser a bit and someone makes a linkage skid plate, as the '14 linkage sticks down a fair way and I ride a lot of rocks.

I just e-mailed them. I figure if the 3/4" lower doesn't effect the suspension, and the seat height is a little lower that will help me .

Darn - that stinks.

Take a look at this one on Slavens Racing.

I don't know exactly what the new 2014 linkage looks like. But this one that is made for KTM's (sorry) sure seems to be a somewhat of an easy thing to make if you have the connections to a machine shop. -- Oh and after posting this I looks like this one is made by Steve...

http://slavensracing.com/shop/link-s...xf-by-slavens/

This one is interesting --- You would have to drill holes in the linkage arms

What about a simple linkage skidplate? These made by a local Wa rider.

Here is the version for the 2012.

http://shopusa.emperorracing.com/p/l...300_2012?pp=24

2014 should be the same right?

StuJohnson 05-13-2014 01:17 PM

No different. Changed on 2013's. This thread here talks more about it.
