2005 FSE 450 Supermoto Conversion
 

I just tried to post this but got bounced out so here we go again. I am trying to obtain a set of supermoto wheels and tires for my enduro bike but have been having trouble locating the right size wheels as well as information on what sprocket, rotor and chain adjustments that I might have to make. I read Cal Tony's threads but I was wondering if there was an easier way. There are some great deals on all sorts of supermoto wheels and tires except Gas Gas on e-bay so if I could go that route, use crossovers and save some money it would be great. Does anybody have any information on this? If not is there a dealer where I could buy the right size wheels? Thanks for any help,

Before I started my own method for the SM conversion, I considered what your considering. Buy it online and bolt em on. Not so easy to do with an off brand.

Before I bought my GG I was about to purchase a new Beta and do a SM conversion on that. Same problem with that as with the GG. Bolt on stuff was hard to find.
Even worse with the Beta, no Beta forum and no online Beta parts suppliers. That killed the beta deal for me.

Another thing I mentioned earlier was that I was a little worried about buying bolt on stuff for the GG from someone saying they could make up a kit. What if it didn't all fit together right? What then?

I will admit, buying all the stuff and hoping that with a little ingenuity, I would be able to put all together on the first try gave me some concern.

But in the end, it all worked out. I ended up buying some things I didn't need and 1 piece of tubing I couldn't use. Bought the wrong size. But everything else worked out well.

The GG 450 makes an excellent plateable SM. Of course, since it's an excellent enduro, why wouldn't it be.

Why not get some used gg wheels and relace them with new rims?

That is what I did. But I think Tony's problem was finding a suitable front
disk rotor and the appropriate caliper carrier. Since my GG is a 1998
with the Marzocchi 50mm magnum forks. I used the caliper carrier
from motomaster for one of the older KTMs that used the same fork.
I found a sweet deal on a new GG SuMo rotor so I was in the game easy.
My bike still wears the 21" front and a 19" rear wheel. Using Dunlop
K180 dirt track tires. This is about to change as I found a pair of used
AJP wheel hubs. Had them powder coated and bought some Excel
17" wheels. 3.50/17 front and 4.25/17 rear. I'll be having them laced
up with new spokes and nipples sometime in the next couple weeks.
I'll post some pictures when I get my project finished. It would be great
to see some of the other GG SuMos you folks have put together.

Every time I see a photo of your GG, I just stare at it and try to take it all in. It is super nice.

Thanks. So I guess you noticed my "Funky" bracket on the front wheel?
I could not figure a way to mount the speedo sensor for my TrailTech
any other way. So I bent up some sheet Alu and a couple pop rivets.
It works, but, it is not very elegant.
Once I get the 17"s mounted . I'll be as giddy as a school girl.
Picts to follow in about a month.

Yes, I noticed that.
The first thing I noticed when I received the 211036 MotoMaster bracket was they didn't include a hole for the speedo connector.
What a bummer. So, your front wheel with the bracket shows some ingenuity. I will be doing likewise on mine. Even though I bought the bracket, I will be looking for one of those brackets that fit between the fork and the original caliper bracket. They look like a rectangular piece of 1/2" alum. shaved 1/4" on half of one side then the same done to the other side and with 4 holes to just move the original bracket far enough out to accept a 320mm rotor. It would make changing back and forth between the 17 and the 21 much easier.

Just another one of those things I was looking for prior to my conversion that still hasn't been found. I'm still looking for one of those brackets already made up for something else with a 95mm spacing between the holes.

On the other hand, MotoMaster could have just designed their bracket a little larger with extra holes like the original, but also so it could be spaced at 260MM as well as 320. But, they didn't..
