Favorite Pre-Mix Oil

Just wondering if there is a common favorite Pre-Mix 2-stroke oil.

No. :D:D:D

That being said, I've been happy with Amsoil Dominator and Redline.

No. :D:D:D

That being said, I've been happy with Amsoil Dominator and GRO Synth-7

swazi_matt 07-01-2012 12:51 AM

Not tried the amsoil but like the motul 710 and the GRO Syn7 but v difficult to get hold of - above is based on performance feel and the amount of spooge in the pv

Rick 07-01-2012 01:00 AM

Motul 710...switched from the Motul 800.....back in the day....bean oil did the trick....Blendziol....in the green can:D

noobi 07-01-2012 01:13 AM

Elf 2XT Tech. Smells like bubblegum, very small amounts of spooge, but still leaves a nice coating of oil on everything.

Diggs345 07-01-2012 05:17 AM

Castrol power 1 , rock oil sythesis or putoline mx5 but im using the castrol at the moment as i can get it from the local motor store

stainlesscycle 07-01-2012 06:04 AM

amsoil dominator. doesn't gum pv, good flash point.

anyone run golden spectro? or royal purple hp-2c? a friend of mine can get me gallons of rp significantly less than dominator...

GMP 07-01-2012 08:51 AM

Dominator for years, good stuff. Redline has a high ester content and absorbs water from the air/fuel, which can separate and tarnish carb brass. Happened to me so I switched to Amsoil. Golden Spectro is old school, burns dirty compared to the modern oils.

desertgasser300 07-01-2012 10:04 AM

Amsoil Dominator in everything from the weedeater to all the bikes big and small.

swazi_matt 07-01-2012 01:52 PM

Seems this has saved me a few questions - my local bike shop only has castrol r1 and amsoil so guess I will be trying the amsoil next

The Amsoil Dominator burns just like the GRO, with the added bonus that its red so you actually know when you've mixed a batch up! :D

Edman 07-01-2012 08:18 PM

Well, Amsoil seems to be very popular. What about Maxima Castor 927? I was told it was good.
Trying to decide which oil to start running in new bike. I like to start off with a good oil and stick with it.

Casters smell good but are dirty and tend to gum things up. Ideally for trail work you want a synthetic/semi synthetic with a relatively low flash point. This will provide good lubing without too much gumming/carbon/spooge. Going top of the line using ends up with a high flash point which means half the oil ends up coming out the exhaust.

pscook 07-01-2012 10:07 PM

Maxima K2 synthetic. So far so good, very little smoke at 40:1 and no noticeable spooge. Jetting is still dicey as I am riding instead of testing, but I'll get it sorted soon, I promise.

I like both Amsoil and the Maxima synthetics. They seem about the same for jetting and running purposes.

socalgasgas 07-01-2012 11:26 PM

Amsoil Dominator no spoog really to speak of. 927 works excellent if you like to pull your power valve apart after every two rides to clean it.

swazi_matt 07-02-2012 12:32 AM

Just to clarify, have used castrol r1 (previously tts) on all my previous bikes and it is a good oil, but for some reason it does not sound as crisp in the GG when compared to motul or GRO

jpelaston 07-02-2012 07:26 AM

I use Champion Oils WP-2 and have zero complaints.

Onespeed 07-02-2012 07:40 AM

I use dumonde tech dtp racing oil. Locally made.

Vindicator 07-02-2012 07:55 AM

Motul 800 Factory Line , since ever.

the maxima does work well. With the Castor/Benol oils, you need to be an A or AA rider. The ones that keep the gas pinned will benefit the most. I agree with running the synthetics for the average guys.

I have always tried to run company's products that I know support our sport the most. For years I ran the Klotz oils which worked well and smell the best IMO but mainly because they always had a support trailer at most of the races and would be title sponsor of some.

Times have changed now and other companies are stepping up and so has my oil choices. Don't know if there is any oil out of the big companies that is really better than the other, you just find what you like and want the best and run it. I just try to support the ones who support our passion to ride and race.

Same here. Great oil.

erniebearskin 07-02-2012 08:43 PM

Am I the only guy using Opti-2

wrench 07-03-2012 10:23 PM

Motul 800, occasionally the 600 bikes and weed whacker since '99/'00.
Never had much of a spooge issue with it in my YZ250 [175hrs on last top end], but my 01 [GG] 250xc drips out of the silencer and exhaust connections.
50:1 ratio in both bikes and the weed whacker.

oregon pampara rider 07-06-2012 04:28 PM

elf 2 xt 4,000 miles+ on my used gasgas and havent opened the engine yet!

waycrazy 07-06-2012 06:01 PM

I like Amsoil dominator. Works great for what I do.

rosco 07-07-2012 01:12 PM

I used to run Silkolene Comp2. Very good clean burning oil at 40:1 but they quit offering it in the gallon jugs, so I switched to Maxima Castor 927. Really like the smell of it until the next time I pulled the ex. off and realized how bad it carbons up everything.
Now I am running Maxima Formula K2 at 50:1. Seems to be a good clean burning oil. The only thing I don't like about it is its hard to tell if your gas has already been mixed or not. It just adds a real light brown color to the gas.

jostby 07-07-2012 08:33 PM

since nobody else seems to run it I'll mention I (we) use Royal Purple. I won a case of it 7rs ago and we've both been using it ever since. We had used Amsoil before that but this is easier for us to get.

I hope you are not still on the same case???

300ec 07-09-2012 12:42 AM

someone used a Motorex Cross Power?
have experience of using it in a ratio of 1 to 70 (100 ml to 7 liters)
I rode on it with the proportion is 48 hours. everything is in order)

p.s. written on the packaging mix 1 to 100

haha, no, that case is long gone but my son works for the local auto parts store and they're a Royal Purple dealer so we get a good price:D

GasTimppa 07-09-2012 12:03 PM

I have used Valvoline, Castrol and Motorex oils before. All syntetic oils. Last two seasons me and my team have used Q8 oils.

Front Royalty 12-16-2012 07:39 PM

BelRay H1-R for me, 40:1, as it is very easy to get. Will post on the carbon factor once my motor is apart.

I have a friend who mixes the Opti at 100:1 and swears by it. He's been using it for years. He's the owner and only mechanic at Victory Motorsports.

alta redneck 12-17-2012 03:07 PM

just wondering why everyone runs the amsoil Dominator vs amsoil Interceptor? i know the Interceptor doesnt have any dye in it, but is there any other reasons. I thought that Dominator was for race engines mainly, stuff that gets rebuilt yearly or so.

'11EC300 12-17-2012 10:29 PM

I run the Intercepter, the only thing I dislike about it is I can never tell if it has been mixed yet... and I have a shitty memory.
I try to mix it as soon as I fill a container.

Same here.

GMP 12-18-2012 08:16 AM

I think Dominator has a higher flash point. Just because its designated as a race oil, doesn't mean its only for engins that get torn down frequently. Quite the opposite, this oil gives outstanding engine life in anything I've used it in over the past twelve years. Its not a castor oil and the PV stays super clean. If you run a spark arrestor it will spooge a bit more like any high end synthetic but I don't care about that.

cladoo 12-18-2012 08:59 AM

Amsoil Saber 80:1 for the last 4 years. Dominator 50:1 before that.
