Any knowledge on Derbi GPR50?
 

I am looking at a Derbi GPR 50. Fair enough price, but I can't find anything of note on the web. It's a 1999 model with an (alleged) 80 top end. Anyone have experience or knowledge of this bike?

Info I am looking for:
Parts source (US or UK, I"m not choosy if they can help)
Service Manual (I think I have one, but any other leads are appreciated)
Engine model or Crossover (is it a Piaggio, Aprilia, engine?)
Hop up parts (duh)
Brake pads
Cables and hoses
Fork seals

The basics, really.

Here's the bike as it sits right now. Complete nutter to ride, compared to, well, everything else in the world (for us Yanks, that is). Start from the line at (minimum) 8,000 RPM. Rev until 11,000. Shift. Repeat 5 times. You are now doing about 40 MPH. Nuts.

Fun statistic of note: It has the ubiquitous "suicide kickstand." Just like the gassers...

Team Calamari used to do stuff for these, bet they still do. There is a plethora of big bore kits, Mallossi etc available in Europe. Edit eBay as well.

Be careful on the crossover, I still haven't got to full terms with it but here's my understanding.

Pre . . .I'm going to say 2005 +/- 5 years they stopped producing their own engines & went to a Euro3 compliant Moto minarelli engine which is used by Aprilia & a billion other manufacturers. Prior to this (Mine is a 2000 I think) they had their own engine, but I've heard that you can also fit the Minarelli top ends on them, I don't know how true it is.

Maybe they made an engine & bought in Minarelli top ends to their design. maybe they were made complete by someone else.

The trail version is the Senda & my GPR engine still had that stamped on the case.

Used to be a Derbi forum I belonged to but it went away.

I used to have a Derbi senda back in the day,I'm sure malossi were the people to get all the facy parts from, also I'm sure there was a 125 engine that people would fit,I'm thinking KX but I could be wrong it was a few years back now:D

Good info, thanks. It has a metra kit pipe on it. Engine maintenance will probably be the easiest, it's the consumables that I will need help sourcing.

I am seriously thinking of taking this on, just because "I want to be a cool kid." These bikes are pretty rare in the States, or at least no one really talks about them.

A 125 engine would be pretty epic in this chassis. I know someone with an older air-cooled MX175 sitting outside his shed, I think that might be a candidate. A 175 would be even more epicer. More awesomer? But a watercooled 125 would be beyond comprehension. I'm running out of adjectives.

What's the availability of aprilia parts like in the states??

I bet you get get an aprilia rs125 motor in there pretty easy or anything you can get your hands on

Aprilia "parts" are pretty easy to source, but the hard bits like engines are pretty scarce. They just recently allowed the Ape 125 to be sold in the states, but it's pretty rare and not even road legal. Finding complete engine kits would be difficult or expensive, at best.

Pretty wicked 125 there. Piques my interest, to say the least.

I have an 02 Senda SM. Standard consumables should not be
a problem. Bike specific parts, like body panels, and engine internals
will be very hard to come by. Unless you can find them in Europe or
source them from someone parting out a bike in the US.

Derbi and aprilia parts and engines are very common and cheap on the uk ebay I'm sure people will post to the states.its worth a look absolutely loads of stuff:D

Duly noted, I poked into ebay.co.uk earlier, and there is a fair bit of stuff available. I don't know how far I will go with it, but it's nice to be able to look around.

If it was a bit faster on the top end, I'd beg you to show up at a PSSR day at this Ridge this summer so I could chase you around with my GoPro :D
