New gopro hero? Any good

Hello all

So I've noticed they have released a gopro hero for ?100 boasting 5mp and 1080p@30fps.
Now I know the specs arnt as good as the more expensive gopro's but im wondering if it's any good? You guys think it's worth it?

Currently using a hd drift170 that's about 3-4yrs old
But have always been interested in the gopro range

Cheers
Ken

The problem with the other high spec go pros is that they are too good for most of our uses - you need to reduce the quality so much from original to watch it anywhere other than on a PC so I think it is a good move. I recently read a comparative review of helmet cams and gopro came out tops being the only one that survived being thrown out of a Ferrari at 180kph

Think in going to take the plunge!
For ?99 and with all the positive feedback I'm sure it's not much of a gamble.
One of me pals said he has a hero 2 and paid a decent amount for it but found it hard to get used to at first-lots of bells and whistles

Think this could be a Christmas present for myself ;)

Where did you find it for that price ?

I have a 1st, & 2nd gen. GoPro cams. They've been tough, reliable, & easy to use. I'm ready to upgrade to a current generation(even though too fancy for my needs). Despite many hard miles on dirtbikes, bicycle bomb runs(including crashes), I've only broken one helmet mount...ever.

Not sure on the helmet mounts for the go pro they stand up tall
My hd drift is more low down and bullet shaped
Think I'll have the gopro mounted on the bike

I tried mounting mine to the bike once. You'll find that the vibration totally ruins the picture quality.

Too much vibration for image stabalisation?
Damit!!!

Mount it to the side of your helmet. Also this $99 GoPro sounds much like the GoPro Hero 2 which is a very good camera

Occasionally, I'll mount a camera to my helmet, but most of my video is taken from a mount on my chest protector. It took a bit of experimenting to find the proper camera angle. The one time I tore a camera off its mount, was during a race. It was mounted on my helmet, luckily a lapper saw it happen...returned it afterwards. A few guys I know use an under visor mount, which seems to work very well.
