For Sale Section: Sub-Forums?

I noticed that a lot of people visit the "For Sale" section. Currently, it is just one large forum that get a variety of threads. I'm wondering if a few sub-forums would help the organization and make it easier for buyers & sellers.

Here is my recommendation:
  • New Bikes
  • Used Bikes (complete bikes only... no bike part outs)
  • Parts (includes any bike part outs)
  • Wanted to buy

What does everyone think?

I think this could be helpful to organize what you are looking at. I'm for it.

I used to resist matt - now I do whatever he says.

Only one question - where do you put all the existing posts?

Haha.. my Jedi mind tricks work. :D

Yeah, that's a good question. There are two options that come to mind.

Option 1 is to only focus on threads started in 2009. These threads would be moved to their new locations. Then, all older threads before 2009 could be dumped in an "archive" sub-folder.

Option 2 is to move all threads to their new locations. This would be time consuming but the end result is better organization. I'm not sure on the value of this option unless the old history is useful for "pricing" purposes.

In either case, I would "volunteer" to move all of the threads manually. That is the only way I would be able to do it. I'm not a computer programmer. It's probably a week worth of work. But I will sign myself up for the task if it helps our GG community. :)

Thanks Matt! -
I think you would only need to "organize" anything 3 months old or newer....

good idea...

FWIW, I agree, anything older than 3-4 months needs reposted if it was still for sale

FWIW, I agree, anything older than 3-4 months needs reposted if it was still for sale and would surely save some work.
It might help to have a "bump rule" to help eliminate dead items. My $.02 worth

Sounds good! Please set up the following folders when you get a chance.
  • For Sale: New Bikes
  • For Sale: Used Bikes (complete bikes only... no bike part outs)
  • For Sale: Parts (new/used components and all bike part outs)
  • Wanted: Bikes or Parts
  • Archived Ads

Later on, we can decide what to do with the archived ads. We could either delete them or just lock all the threads. This would force new ads to be created in the proper folders. On a case-by-case basis, a seller could contact a moderator to reactivate an "old" thread if needed. IMO, a new ad would be better but this could be an option.

Done.

I made the "wanted" section a "wanted and want to trade" section...

Let me know if I need to make any other tweaks to the layout or descriptions.

Thanks,
Jeff
