ignition timing on a 2000 XC300

I took my stator apart to inspect and clean for a no spark problem.
I did not mark the position of the backing plate because I assumed there were marks on the case to line it back up. Ya know like every other motor on the face of the planet........
I later found out there is a oblong shaped washer that fits inside one of the backing plate holes that sets the position.
My bike never had that washer. there is a marked line on the backing plate that lines up with nothing on the case.
Anyone have a picture of the correct position of the plate or suggestions where I should start?

thanks for sharing that link.
My stator is different than the one pictured. It has the wires coming in from the 1 o clockish position.
Would the pick up timing be the same? I assume not.

The mounting orientation will be the same-position of bolt in slot.

Got the plate in what I think is the correct position.
My spark at kicking speeds looks very weak.
The ONLY WAY the bike will start hot or cold is to "rabbit" kick it over as fast as I can. Ushally lights after 3 of 4 fast kicks.
It idles and runs great after I get it started.
stator passed all multimeter test and the head light works great.
When I first assembled the bike it started normal. I changed nothing. what happened to my healthy spark? Why the new starting procedure? New spark plug also. pilot jet not clogged.

Stators have a limited life span. The insulation breaks down and you no longer get the voltage you once had.

I kinda thought stators either work or don't work.
My bike runs great.
The lighting coil definitly works well.
if the coil that gives voltage to the CDI is bad wouldn't it flunk the multimeter test?

Lighting coils are separate and big fat wire that rarely fails. Multimeters are great tools but they have limitations. If, and it can be deceiving, but if the spark is diminished, try observe in the dark, then there is less power getting to the tip.

Hard starting can be choke cct block, gry a squirt of engine start with filter removed into carb. Some brake cleaners work well. Compression can be a reason if low, like pretty low.

just an update.
The stator was the problem for the weak spark.
Apparently it can pass all the multi meter test and run fine after being started and still be bad.
Threw in a new stator for a 2010 KTM 300XCW. Big fat spark at kicking speeds. starts eaiser, runs the same.
Thanks for the help guys.

Well I am surprised
