Coolant drain bolt
I have a couple questions for the experts. I picked up a new 2011 250 six days and was going thru the PV adjustment (wasn't off by much at all). After putting everything back together I went to put the coolant drain bolt back in and while tightening to 9 Nm the fiber washer broke. My questions are; should I get another gasket type washer or should I get a copper washer? And is 9 Nm too much for the coolant drain bolt on the water pump housing? That seems like it may be too much and I'm paranoid I'm gonna strip the housing threads. :o
Thanks for any input! |
9nm doesn't seem obnoxious. i use neoprene washers for coolant drain bolts usually a bag of 50 is only $5 or so...

I just snug it down with a nylon washer, which I found a lot of the correct size in work. Anything like this would be fine.

The fiber washers are crud. I had the same thing happen the first time I took it out. Doing it back up with hardly any force it fell apart. I went to the local hardware and grabbed a few small brass/copper washers. Cheap as chips and work good as gold.

What size is the bolt?
|
bolt is 6x10

thanks, now i know what size washer to look for

Thanks guys! After doing a bit of work on this bike I now understand what everyone is talking about when they say "assortment of fasteners"... I'm gonna make a list this weekend of bolts to replace and nut rivets and nut inserts to buy.
