cam shaft problems on a fse400 2002

Hi all, does anyone know if the DRZ 400 cam shafts will fit in a 2002 fse400? I have aquired a bike where the decomp device broke up, apparently this is the second cam that has done this in this bike alone.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Cheers. :D

drz camshafts

Hi,Just to let you know drz 400 camshafts drop staight in ! plus if your after a bit more go drz 400 hot cams work excellent as i've had a pair in my 03 450fse for over a year now with no problems.Cheers Jim.

Jim,
How did the 03 motor spin over when starting with the DRZ hot cams?
My 03 with the stock exhaust cam spun very labored.

I switched to a stock 04 exhaust cam, and the motor didn't labor as hard when starting. :D

Hotcams

Hi there
There was no difference between the standard Gasser cams and the Hotcams on my bike. The biggest problem 03 bikes have is the starter motor under the exhaust cos it gets fried with the heat. So, it's worth cleaning it, reconning it and putting stick on heat wrap round it. I've done it on mine and since then have had no problems. Putting Hotcams in makes a big difference to mid range and top end performance.
Cheers Jim.

Has anyone found any aftermarket supliers for piston kits for these bikes?

Vertex has 450 pistons, depending on year. For my 05 the exhaust relief had to be cut deeper to clear the valves. They may have 400 pistons too, I couldn't say.

22953A is the number off my vertex piston box.

Cut off the auto decomp with a dremmel before fitting its what we do with the DRZs. They start fine without them.
