Fuel tap rebuild kit

Good folks. A mates tap is playing up, as is his float needle. Double whammy. He'd cleaned it all out but several rides later same thing but strangely his tap seems to be leaking like crazy on 'off'.
It emptied right down to reserve, so no, he hadn't turned it to reserve.

It dumped a complete tank in my van last year so I have a vested interest:mad:

I suspect the main seal will be damaged. Does anyone know the crossover or where to get a kit?

Hi F5

Don't know about a seal kit/repair kit but here in Europe you can buy the complete tap and filter for 1996 to 2009 model for less than 18 euros.

GasGas part number is BE25610031

The 2018 model fuel tap for just under 11 euros, GasGas part number BE76020GG-CLJ-1

I've never had a fuel tap apart, is it just O rings inside, if so could they be measured up to source replacements?

All the best, Dave.

Thanks. It's a 2010 . They usually are just a wavey washer and a formed circle seal with holes in the right place. I guess 6 different sizes would cover 90% of bikes made since Indian Boardtrackers (facts and figures purely made up). I could pull the thing down and with a friendly shop match up with a 1998 KTM 250. For which I won't be able to get parts for anyway.:p

Just out of interest...

How is it sourcing GasGas parts in New Zealand. Do you have many dealers who stock parts or do you rely on ordering from websites?

Cheers, Dave.

Um. . . Not too sure really, kinda buy most stuff aftermarket, but a couple of dedicated dealers stock things like water pump seals and shafts etc. Mate got a bendix last week ok.
Gee I guess I should check if it's a spare part. Wait right there. . .

No its not listed.

Hey! Why have I put this in the engine section? Thought it was in carb area, oh well.

fuel tap

Mine has been acting up with a minor drip, so tore it down, discovered no o-rings. Just one single piece or rubber w-3 holes and cover plate. I cleaned everything up ,ran some fuel through to clean the tank, reassembled and no issues. However I do have problems with the fuel lines not lasting 3 months tops. (helix fuel line from rocky mt.)

Can I ask exactly what fuel you're using?

Here in France I use 95 or 98 octane unleaded from supermarket pumps, but there's also cheaper E10 fuel available that contains 10% ethanol.

I won't use the fuel containing ethanol as it's known to deteriorate rubber and plastic, as used in fuel lines, seals, O rings, etc.

All the best, Dave.
