Trying a Gas Gas

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and new to Gas Gas. I am picking up a new 2011 Nambotin this week and am pretty pumped!!
My last bike was a 2007 KTM 450 XC and I loved the bike and until recently was going to buy a 2013 KTM 300 XC but a friend of mine picked up a Nambotin a few weeks back and I started reading more about them and next thing you know I am jumping on one myself. From what I have been reading about them it sounds like I should enjoy it as much as my KTM, maybe even more!!

Wow congrats that's quite a pick up; enjoy. Look forward to your ride report. Oh...welcome to the site.

Heading out on some single track this weekend to try it out. I am sure there will be some tinkering after that.

I didn't know there were any left. Good snag.

Let us know what you think of those choice Ohlins components.

I predict you like it more than your KTM....

That's the feeling I'm getting too bukwheat. That is a big reason I want to try a Gas Gas, plus being a 300 and not a 450 4T is going to be a noticeable difference right there!!

I predict what Buckwheat predicted is gonna be the correct prediction too :D. My son had a 08 KTM 450 and a 08 KTM 505 and they feel like non turning tanks compaired to my old 2010 GG 300.

Rode a '12 KX450F in the woods last weekend. Great bike.

Couldn't wait to get back on my "little" 300 ... but I couldn't catch up to the guy on my bike to force the swap :D

Well got out on my first ride on the Nambotin yesterday.

Here are the positives:
It does feel very nimble and when having to zig-zag through tight twisties around trees and over roots the bike handled awesome. Also on bermed corners on the trail, I can rail them like nothing I have ever rode before.

I do need to do some re-jetting, it is blowing some sludge out of the silencer and does not idle and stalls if I pull in the clutch to idle down and around some obstacles if I don't keep the revs up, kinda a pain in the butt.

Here are the negatives:
The gas leaks out of the cap when it is on, the threads on the tank are chipped up a little so I think this must be the problem, has any one else had this problem? I am going to talk to Gas Gas and see what they have to say. I do see some fit and finish things too such as I didn`t get the right rubber covers for the brake or clutch levers, no rubber cover on the throttle housing on the handlebars and no rubber cover over where the clutch line connects to the clutch cylinder. And for the worst, the rear brake cooler, I HATE IT!! I stand up all the time and sqeeze with my legs and that thing is like a cheese grater and it cut a big slice on the inside of my boot!! Is there a cover that Gas Gas makes to cover that stupid thing? Otherwise I have to make some kinda cover or maybe take it right off. That was a quick way to ruin a perfectly good pair of quality riding boots!!:mad:

Besides those few issues, I do love how the bike handles and like any other bike has its little issues to work out, but once I get those fixed up this bike will be awesome!!

My 2011 Race has a standard flat cover on the rear master cylinder, so I'm sure you can get one. My bike didn't want to idle at first either, but some jetting adjustments took care of that. I think it has a lot to do with the needle. The clutch and front brake lever covers came in the fanny pack kit that came with my bike. Enjoy
