2010 250 EC Jetting.

Hi, i have myself a 2010 250 gasser, the bike / jetting is completely standard.

It fouled a plug, so i moved the clip up on the needle, which made it slightly better - it pulls a bit better in 2nd gear hill climbs now - although i still feel it could be better.

I'm new in the forum's - i've tried to search but havve found no information relating to what i am after, so hopefullly you can help!!

Thanks!!

what elevation do you ride at?

I have just picked up a 2010 300 and down here the best needle to use is actually from one of those (dare i mention the name) orange bikes (N3EH). I will find out if the same can be used on the 250, but imagine it can since they are v similar machines

PS does the US bike come standard with the computer/speedo?

2010 Jetting

My 2010 300 came out of the box with a 40 pilot, 175 main, needle at the leanest clip, and the air screw at a whooping 3 turns out. I have since went to a 38 pilot, needle is at 2nd from the top, air screw is at 2 turns out, kept the 175 for now, but will drop it one size later this week.

Here in KY, the heat index has been in excess of 100 degree's this week, so jetting is a bit difficult, all things considered.

My bike still has the standard jetting - i am yet to strip the carb and take the jets out ! All i have done, is take move the clip up once on the needle to lean it out slightly, although it is still running rich.

I need to take it apart and find out what jets are in there from standard !!

Swazi Matt, sorry i didnt get around to editing profile info, i'm from uk!! I bought the bikeas a CC (cross country) which is uk specific this past couple of years.

It is the EC, minus indicators, speedo/computer, rear light, and a lot cheaper!!

A number 8 slide will help dial the jetting with more normal jet sizes. You can in the elevations you have in the UK likely leave the standard 42 and 175 jets in the bike with this slide. Needles will vary, but I have settled on a CEL needle (Sudco part number). All of my jetting specs are directly from Ron at RB-Designs. He did his carb mod to my bike, and it certainly runs nice, with the benefit of an airscrew adjustable with the fingers.

I'm inexactly the same situation in the uk with the same bike ! I will be trying dropping to a 38 pilot and leaning off the needle one with a 175 main... if i can ever get the needle retaining bolt out !!!

i also feel it could do with a 50t rear sprocket to make 2nd and 3rd gears abit stronger.

the bike seems to run fine with the needle down a notch. Yes, i have just put a 50T on the rear of mine to make 3rd and 4th gears more useable, and prefer it !

any of you tried the N3EH 3 taper needle. Put it in my bike on second clip and kept all the rest of the jetting (it is a bit rich for the 500-1200m altitude i irde) and it really has crisped the whole range up. works really nicely

Hey Swazi

My wife has a 200 . I am running the N3EH needle , it is a midrange to top needle , however I have set it up for the most linear and smooth power .

My settings are: 170 main
42 pilot
airsrew 1.75 out
Needle N3EH 4th clip ( no bog off idle)
Altitude ( JHB) 1600m

I know that Wayne Farmer runs his 2010 300 with the same needle at clip 2 and 170 main and I think a 40 pilot , however that is for the offroad nationals , I would run slightly richer for more bottom end .
I have ordered a JD jet kit as I believe the N3EH is not so good for the bottom end torque.

Just my 2 cents .

i played about with it at the weekend and ended up with 40 pilot, ef needle 2nd from top, 175 main. seems pretty good all round now.

50 t rear is way better 2nd,3rd and 4th much more useable

these changes must have worked as i came 4th overall racing yesterday, not bad on a bike i've only ridden for an hour or so before.
