Is there a shop manual on this bike?
Need to get the voltage output for stator.
Need to get ohm reading for ingition coil.
Spark looks weak.
Any help would be appreciated...

I got some voltage readings.
For the impluse coil: Red/White wire - ground = 3VAC at idle
For the impluse coil: Red/Black wire - ground = 12VAC at idle
For the exciter coil: Black/Red wire - Red/White wire = 12.5 ohms
For the ignition coil: White/Blue wire - Green wire = .7 ohms
For the ignition coil: White/Blue wire - spark plug boot = 19k ohms

Can someone verify these readings?

Thank you for your help...

Does it run ok once it starts?

TRAILBLAZER808 08-13-2014 04:58 PM

Yes, but its a bitch to start. It wont idle at a low rpm.

cbutler 08-13-2014 06:15 PM

How old is the top end what about the Compression?

jimjim 08-13-2014 07:30 PM

Have you checked your reeds yet?

TRAILBLAZER808 08-14-2014 01:13 AM

Checked reeds they look good.
Put a new carbureator.
Checked and cleaned all connections.
Compression is 145.
Hooked up a used CDI, same problem.
Waiting for new Ingition coil and rectifer.
I hope thats the problem, a new stator cost $350.00
Why dont GasGas put out a shop manuel like the Japan bikes?
Oh, I guess its so the can sell more parts to bike owners like me, that dont have a GasGas mechanic to go to.
I hate to say it but Japan bikes get so much more support and they dont break down as much.

Todd5774 08-14-2014 01:59 AM

Sounds like it needs a new top end, compression test should be giving you at least 170psi.

And I've always found mine to be more reliable than jap stuff..

TRAILBLAZER808 08-14-2014 02:47 AM

Thank you for the info.
But you should try to refrain from using RACIAL SLURS.
Iam sure we have hundreds of members who are of the Japanese Race.
Being a Gold Member like yourself maybe you should place the bar a little higher.
I belive this web site has rules about this....

Its ok to call it a japanese bike but not jap stuff? I don't think there was any underlying (or not) racial slur intended.. But incase anyone was offended please let me know. Until then I appologise on behalf of Todd.

Trail blazer. Its a 10 year old bike. We all agree the Gas Gas workshop manual and supporting documentation isn't as good as you'd get with a Yamaha or Honda. No doubt about that.

Others have given you some advice here and its the same as with any other second hand bike of unknown history. You will need to do some digging.

How many hours on the engine?
How are the reeds?
When was the piston/rings last replaced?

Whats your current jetting specs?
Have you pulled the carb and given it a throrough cleaning?
Have you owned this bike long and was it previously starting easily?

The gas gas engine is as reliable as a stone. They can take a bit of initial setup, but once done very little other than periodic maintenance is required.
