GasGas15 vs Beta 15/16....
so im looking at upgrading bikes from old 09 GG which i love.. i have a 250 and a 300....
ive found , what i think is a reasonably priced (for australia) 15 GG 300E with 6 hrs but a lot of hard parts.... i also have access to a 15, 250 with about 35 hrs but its stock and a bit cheaper.... some of my friends think i should get a BETA instead.... i have played a bit with a new one and yes its a nice bike,... but im not convinced.... there are a few things GG do better, spark plug access for a start..... the factory seems to be getting ready to go back on line... and there is still good support..... i know i wont get as good resale but i generally ride my bikes till their done.... any thoughts or comments..? (i am possibly looking for a biased response here....) |
With the gg you get this forum!
And I know it's superficial but the gg looks better! |
I upgraded from a 06 200 to a 15 200. I do not regret that move. The 15 model is a very good bike as far as I can tell. Have only ridden it 15 hours with no problems so far (apart from filling the airbox with water when pressure washing it ). Regarding 300 or 250 I have nothing to add. Depends on your preferences. I prefer the 200.

I've upgraded too from 300/09 to 250/15 and to be honest there are lot of differences to justify the cost. E start, lighter, adj PV, newer looks, marzocchi pfps etc etc plus the knowledge over GG and common parts.
My buddy has a Beta 250. It's lighter and crispier, e start is perfect, suspension needs work (sachs) and some parts are and look cheap. What turned me off beta was the aesthetics. simple as that. Where I live they are so popular that you see them in the woods as often as ktms. Both bikes you can't go wrong for enduro and are comparable enough. Guess all depend on the price and parts you get with. |
As far as the 2 strokes go, the GG's are a superior bike IMO. The Betas are a bit lighter and have a very linear power delivery(just slightly better than GG's), but their chassis and stock suspension just doesn't measure up to a GG. I prefer the GG ergos as well, but that is subjective.
The Beta 390 4t is a very, very good bike out of the box. Especially for the average guy. Not sure why it's so much better, when almost all the bits are the same as the 2ts, except the engine. Racers probably would prefer the 350 Beta over the 390 due to snappier power delivery. |
I own a gas gas 2013 and have ridden and know a lot of gas gas 2012+ and new beta 2t riders. I've ridden both and my next bike will be beta. Beta is the best current 2t enduro in my opinion and miles ahead if the current gas gas. When you compare used bikes gas gas is better value but if your looking at brand new no way gas gas they drop 50% in a year beta and ktm take 3 years to drop 50%.

I own both. I have a '12 gg 300 and '14 beta 300... I like the gg for it feeling planted. Love the beta for lightness, estart is amazing and is shorter in overall height... Also love the beta for it's cooling... My gg likes to puke, my beta is cool, calm and collected... But overall, I'm happy I got both :D

How would you compare the motors since you have both 300s? I have a 300 GasGas and a 250 Beta. Very different motors which is not surprising since they are different sizes. Both of my bikes have the same 48mm PFP forks and they work very similarly. I would also say both turn and have equal stability. I have a set of Sachs and the bike is not as stable with these. I have not spent much time with the stock Sacks so do not over read into my comment. Both bikes have proven to be very durable. Edit- Few more comments I like the GasGas gear ratio spacing better I actually think the Beta is more stable when set up right but turns just as well. Up until the Beta the GasGas was better than the 20 bikes before that. Beta definitely has a lower seat height than my 11 with a tall seat Beta Stock Jetting is good - You can set per chart and ride. Can be tuned but not needed. Beta clutch spins faster which helps if you use a Rekluse. |
To me, it feels the beta's power is more linear... The suspension definitely for me is better on gg than beta.
