Asterisk Ultra Cell

Tired of messing around with laces on your Asterisk knee braces?
I know I am. Everyone is hitting the trail while I'm fumbling with the laces.

Here's Asterisk's answer. Looks like you turn a knob to tighten them up.

Any idea what the price is?

$699 a pair.
10% off that if you're a previous customer.

That is the only way they can get ahead of you! 'Sides, you pass them soon enough :)

Thats sweet! Like a ski boot adjustment. My CTi is getting hammered, I'd love a pair of these.

They do look nice, I got a pre-flyer from my distributor the other day on these. We've used the Boa reel type system on wakeboard boots for a while now, I still haven't seen a weight yet but carbon fiber/aluminum can't be to heavy ! They have a lot of features:
The Ultra Cell™ Knee Protection System is without question the most technologically-advanced Knee Protection System available. Several patented revolutionary design concepts come together in unison to create this System. The A.R.C. Cuff’s ability to be totally adjustable for fit, yet remain rigid, along with a superior fastening design in partnership with Boa? Technologies, a natural free-motion, rolling-gliding hinge, tibial plateau-capturing frame design, brace-to-boot tether attachment, and a full time-full coverage patella cup, sets this knee brace decades ahead of all the rest.

Now if they are comfortable and even better yet covered by health insurance providers.

I'd really like to get a good pair but no matter the technology the bottom line is they have to fit and be comfortable. The problem is I haven't found a retailer that will stock any of the high end braces to try on.

Fred1956 10-28-2011 09:28 AM

Another issue is that most of them measure by thigh/calf size, so a large for me is a different large for another-hard to stock like that

I put in about 50 hard miles today with the new Ultra Cells.

Ultra Pros:
Lighter.
Main frame fits better around the leg.
Attatching system-Light years ahead.
Better warranty: BOA cable system has a lifetime warranty.
1 year warranty on the rest of the Ultra Cell.

Cons:
Bulkier around the knee guards. Had a tighter fit in the MX pants.
Instructions are the New World pictographs.

I did a "dry" fit with the Ultras Saturday. Fit was excellent. Had to do some minor tweeking of the metal cinch bars around the upper thigh. The braces come with an allen wrench for making these adjustments.

While riding, I could not feel any pressure points from the brace.
The new attatching cable system is fast to put on very easy to tighten up.
With the lace up system on the old braces, I was never sure they were tight enough.
I did not have any shifting of the braces while riding,
It was easier to grip the bike due to the better fitting main frame.
No chafing at all-the Ultras have nothing behind the knees that would cause chafing.

I am very impressed with the new Ultra Cell knee braces. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Troy Lee braces when I saw these.
