2005 FSE 450 valve clearances ?

I have my fse on the work stand for some winter maintenance. The valve clearances are currently at .006" intake and .009" exhaust. I can't find the factory values anywhere, they aren't listed in the downloadable engine manual. Anyone have the specs on these clearances. 4400 miles currently on bike. Thanks.

check the Yamaha site. It is a yamaha motor right?

Do some searching on the board. I'm sure they've been listed here somewhere.

Intake 0.13 - 0.17
Exhaust 0.18 - 0.22

No I don't think it is the Yamaha motor...it's the older style..DRZ looking engine.

Thank you. That converts to .005 - .0067" Intake and .007 - .009" exhaust. Seems they are close enough..maybe room for .001" adjustment on the exhaust.

I started getting a noise that I can only describe as " loose something" in my engine after a hard ride of 250 miles thru the desert.
I'm new to opening engines.

Followed DRZ400 instructions on YouTube. Looks like my intake valves (rear of engine) are at 0.13 and exhaust (front of engine) of 0.20.

My timing chain seems to be tight enough. I don't really know how to find out if it's ok. Maybe I'll try to get the auto tensioner off and put it back on again.

What do I check next that might be the "noise"?

No idea vinny - your chain probably :)
Seriously though - four strokes always sound like they have something rattling around in them.
does it go away with the clutch pulled in or out?
top end or bottom end?
could be ur tensioner, i think a lot of people switch to MCCT.

It is not a yamaha engine. The 400 and 450 are gasgas developed and manufactured engines. Some engine parts are said to interchange with a suzuki DRZ...

The noise was a "new" noise. It sounded like a bucket of bolts before, now there is an extra noise. I changed the oil and it was still there. I also thought it might be the rock I found stuck under the skid plate, it wasn't , noise still there.

My valves seem to be in spec. Very low clearance in GG engine vs DRZ that I looked at on you tube.
About to take off the auto chain tensioner now. How do you know if the chain is bad? How do you know if the tensioner is bad? Chain feels nice and tight to me.

Noise is more noticeable when giving it just a little bet of throttle, noticeable at idle but not as much.
Rekluse clutch ; noise doesn't change with clutch in or out.

Also, DRZ has a sight window for top dead center on the left side of the motor, GG has some wires going in that area. How do I know when I'm in top dead center? And if I'm in compression ir exhaust cycle on the cylinder ?

From memory aren't there some marks on ur timing gears that line up with the top of the head. I think just youtubed it when I checked mine
