What did you do to your Gas Gas today?

In the WR450 Forum I used to frequent, there was a "What have you done to your bike today" thread is really good for getting ideas for mods or for problem solving. It's also great for posting pics of anything related to riding or working on bikes. Let's get one going here.

I'll kick it off with my hardware store $1.00 seat bolt "through the top" conversion mod for my 12 300. I got my idea from Stu. The bolt is a stainless button head 40mm long same dia and pitch as stock. Two aluminum fender washers and a stainless nylon lock nut. Drilled from under the seat through the existing hole, then screwed bolt and washer down from top using RED Loctite. Then just use the nylon lock nut and other alum fender washer. Works great and that seat isn't coming off because of anything to do with the bolt. There is a fancy kit with anodized red cup washer you can get, but it's hard to beat $1.00 and having it done now and not waiting for shipping.

Sweet!

I find it odd that in a Liberal Blue state it is easier to get a off road bike plated than down here in La.

I went out to the garage and looked at mine twice so far ... does that count? :D

Last week, I swapped out the ignition coil/wire for the one from my 94 YZ 250 [direct bolt up w/change of wire connector] so that I could use the Nology wire that I liked so much & installed some '07 shrouds that really made it look better. Now my 01 and 03 look the same and "newer" than they are.

Put a sticker on side cover. Therefore, is now faster. $0.49

Stoby 12-06-2013 01:56 PM

Not easy

Its not easy to find a plateable 2t here Basically only reason I bought it was that its illegally legal or vice versa.Really didnt need another bike! You find them once in awhile usually ex race bikes that I think had a few strings pulled via dealers importers etc.
It still took a cop coming to my house and 3 trips to the registry
So not easy

bkwdc 12-06-2013 03:39 PM

I rebuilt my engine.
Waiting on powder coating
Sending suspension off for revalving
Ordering transformation kit from the Motocross center.

Oh I set my squish band as well 1.63mm but got nothing else to play with as i'm on one thin base gasket!

bkwdc 12-07-2013 07:12 AM

Just looked at mine again. She is all dressed up and ready to go. They cancelled the HS tomorrow due to ice storms. :(

GLantern 12-07-2013 07:32 AM

I ditched the stock tail light and installed a tusk universal. I was not spending 90$ on another stocker after the second one broke.

I started and rode both of my GasGas bikes yesterday. Just at home in the yard but it was still fun :D .

bonkeye 12-07-2013 03:39 PM

fixed my side stand bracket, it snapped by the upper bolt so welded a 2mm plate on the back of it just needs a lick of paint

Nice work!

nambo-trev 12-07-2013 03:50 PM

That's exactly what I did to my stand bracket except mine wasn't removable so I welded to grade 8 washers on each side of the tear and buffed it up good as new!

I can't take credit for coming up with it, I saw it in another thread on here. I think it might have been Stu again.

This is why I started the thread. There are so many clever ideas hidden deep in the threads. A thread like this brings them out in the open and exposes them without you having to even be looking for it.

Moto7man 12-07-2013 08:10 PM

I pulled off both wheels cleaned bearings, spacers, axles, chain adjusters.A lot of rust on the adjuster bolts that pass to into the inside of the swingarm, wt!, how does that much water get inside the swingarm? Well, it was time well spent. Gonna grease the suspension linkage tomorrow.
