MC65'06 ignition problems

Hello !

First of all a smal presentation...
I live in France near Lorient.
My son, Damian, started MX riding 1 years and half ago with a GasGas MC65.
He still has this machine.
We experience problems with ignition since we bought the machine
The machine is hard to start (the kick is now dead and I replace it tomorrow !!!).
Looking at the spark when kicking I observed that some are not good when kick is not pressed quickly... My son is not very heavy and strong and rarely succed in starting the machine ... this is a real problem for races !
I reduced the spark plug gap from 0.6 mm to 0.4 mm and now the machine starts quite good !
Did anyone experience the same problem ?

They had a bunch of bad stators, check with your dealer to see if yours is a bad one.

Thank you for this information...
I will ask my delaer but he seams not to be aware of that problem because I mentionned to him my problem and he never told me of the stator !

You know the MC65 has a beefed up derbi moped engine, stator assemblies might be found cheaper in moped supply stores.

Look and see what brand yours is. The replacement ignition that is good is Ducati. I cant remember the other brand but i think it was Japanese company made in China that went bad.

This is a problem with these bikes you need a new stator I believe the source coil should have between 700 and 800 ohms of resistance below 300 bike will not run if yours starts I would guess yours to be between 300 and 315 ohms

Do you know how and where I can check it (between what wires ? Engine stopped ?, ...)

[solved]

My problem has been finally solved...
First I changed the spark plug gap to 0.4 mm : the engine starts better but not really good...
Then my dealer tries to change the stator and rotor by a used one coming from a derbi 50cc with engine coil OK but lighting coil bad (which is of no importance for the MC65...) : and now I have good sparks and engine starts very well with the recommanded spark plug gap of 0.6 mm !
