2006 Enduro at Erzberg

It sounds like the 2006 Enduro at Erzberg will be shown on Spike TV in August and September.
Read more about it here:

Also, the new DVD will be released soon. Unfortunately, their site only has a clip of the 2005 footage. I'm looking forward to seeing the new DVD.

By the way, I find it interesting that Jimmy Lewis competed on GasGas bikes for the last two years. Since Dirtrider is typically KTM-loyal, it is nice to see him compete in one of the hardest enduros with a bike he can be confident on. :D

Jimmy usually has good things to say about the Gasser's, and you are right it's a huge boost to the brand. It does need some promotion however because it will go un-noticed by most if not.

Before that they were Yamaha-loyal, and before that they were Honda-loyal, and before that...

Magazines cater to whom ever throws the most advertising $'s and swag at them. Lewis has always been "fair and balanced" when it comes to moto-journalism. A trait that has carried over from his off-road editor days at Cycle World. Back when he became editor at Dirt Rider I thought he'd fall in with the "flavor of the month" crowd that perpetually doles out useless drivel in the off-road motorcycle publications. I've really been surprised that he's continued to buck the system. Something we haven't seen since the Super Hunky days.

Then again Lewis has actually raced everything from 125's in SX to Open-class twins in the Dakar. Not to mention he's a fairly decent trials rider. You won't find many moto-journalists out there with that kind of resume.

I quit subscribing to Dirt Rider several years ago. Usually I just pick up a copy at the supermarket, thumb through it while grocery shopping, then put it back... unless there's an article I find interesting.

Well, I found out that Spike TV is showing the 2006 Enduro at Erzberg as a "web special". The 5 to 10 minute episodes have not all been released yet. I will post the newer episodes as they become available.

NOTE: you will need the Quicktime movie player. Also, please "right click and save target as..." in order to minimize bandwidth issues.

Enjoy!

Just added episodes #5 and #6.
Episode #6 is the best one so far. The racing begins and the hill climbs are huge!

How was this DVD done (more race-based or documentary style)?

I have the 2005 DVD and it was more documentary of the USA riders. After about halfway through, the racing action was covered more. I'm hoping the new producers provided more race footage and less interviews.

I would appreciate any feedback on the production style of the 2006 DVD (especially if you have the 2005 DVD to compare with). The 2005 DVD was good, but I think it could have been much better in my opinion.

Lots of talking, possible even more than the 05 DVD. However the racing footage is better with better angles to appriciate the steepness. Pfieffer (spelling ?) tries to climb one hill on a BMW, pretty impressive, but only about 4 seconds worth of viewing.
All in all, properly not as good as the 05, more of an extension to the 05 for a better overall appriciation of the hardness of the race.
Also it rained on the last day....
