That is very good advice. A few years ago here in Alberta, someone shot my friends horse while his dad was riding it on his own property! The horse didn't make it

We start riding at 10am. Hunters should be done by then.
We do have a rule that the hunters can't hunt within 150 yards of the trail.

We only ride private property during hinting season. We have a lot of trails that can be shared and we can ride anytime. There is limited hunting season. I try to be considerate. Even on the trails out the back door are private but there are hunters nearby so we don't even ride some of our farther out trails. Even though we have permission.

A couple weeks ago, I went out for a mtn bike ride from our place in the western NC mountains. There's a trailhead for the Appalachian Trail 3.7 miles from my house. Before I got to the gravel road turnoff heading up to the trailhead, I encountered the bear hunters with their dogs with their radio collars . It's not just the guns and being accidently shot that's a concern, but also being run over by a 1/2 dozen pickup trucks when the dogs tree a bear and the hunters try to get as close as possible to where the dogs (and Bear) are before hiking cross country to make the kill.

I quickly abandoned that route and just rode pavement that day.

I know the hunters have a right to be out there and most of the time, are helping to manage excessive wildlife population.

I intend to stay out of their way while they do their thing.:)

Where I ride I tend to skip riding trails during hunting season as well. They can enjoy it for a couple of weeks, it is good to share.

Is there any riding on Long Island other than trials Riding ? Make me envious of the people in Oregon , Montana and other places like that .

I live in Oregon, and for the most part it is true dirt bike heaven 365 days a year because of our mild climate. However I have had a run in with hunters. Even with clear rules of where and when to hunt, sometimes they venture in to riding areas. One time we had a man, an older man who surely should have known, brandish his side arm on my group. One of my friends was also packing and we nearly had a shootout. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed, but never mind the facts when emotions and people are involved. Believe me, I'm all for hunting and fishing, but people are people in every group, and as they used to say in the Marine Corps, there's always that 10%.

Not much, I have some spots though that don't involve the woods.
