2008 Crank Bearings

Interesting info:

I just got off the phone with Mark from Go Fasters who was kind enough to answer my many questions about the Gas Gas bikes and some of the 08 changes.

The 08 2 strokes will have SEALED crank bearings because of the Euro emissions regs. Allows 100-1 mix ratio with no problems. Yikes!!!

Also said the bikes are coming with no pipes or silencers. FMF will be building the pipes and will provide the S/A silencer as well. It's a copy of the Doma pipe which they sent along with the 07 bike for fitment.

Clarke is also making a new oversize tank for the bikes.

Bikes come as EC but have the lighter DE ignition and wimpy 2k2 35 watt output.

MSO/Title could be an issue if you want to register the bike as it may read "for off road use only" unlike previous MSO's I was told. This is still up in the air though I guess and Dale is working on it.

Better seats

Ohlins still an option

If you like Blue the 2nd or 3rd shipment should have some of those as well

Light kit is seperate and about $300. Ouch!!

$7,400 for a 300 and a 200 is only going to be a few hundred less.

So....how did I do for a newbee over here?

Yeah I do realize that but they are busy with things I'm sure so I thought I'd post it. Interesting about the bearings though.

That's an offer I can't refuse. After the holidays settle down I'd love to have a spin on the 300 at some point. It's the size I'm most interested in. Do you have a place nearby to ride in the winter? Norton is not far at all, I get stuff down at Kevins Cycle at least a few times a year.

Thanks

What's the point of a light kit with the 2k2? At $7400 I think it's going to be a tough sell against the KTM 300xcw-e especially when they can be had for $6200 or so.

I'm in the market for an 07 300 if anybody knows of one. I need to get a plate and I understand the 07 isn't marked off road. I missed a new one a couple of weeks ago.

Out of curiosity I looked around the internet and found MSRP prices on the ktm 300s, depending on options they range from $7050 to $7250.... They are in the same ballpark...

Exactly. So I guess the rumors were true that the KTM's were going up in price. If that is the case we might have more GG riders.:D

The KTM dealers seem to deal on these bikes much more readily than GG dealers. My son has an 08 300 that he paid $6225 for. The few 07 EC300s I found the dealers wanted $7000. This is on an 07 versus an 08.

KTM bike prices increased $250 as of Dec. 1st. ATV went up $500. I suppose there will be dealers who will apply the increase to bikes they already have in stock and were ordered before the increase but the bottom line is they become more = in price I guess. Either you just really want to be different or just really want a GG bike...or both to pony up the $$$$ for the 08.

To the new potential GG owner, the big question is, is it worth it? Those of us that have the bikes know the answer.

Factor in KTM suspension work (almost always mandatory) and its not much of a difference. Also, FYI, the light kit is expensive because of the halogen headlight. A pre '07 Hebo Granada light looks and fits great for around $70. I did this to mine with just a connector change.

You will also have to purchase a 2k3 and flywheel if you really need lights, especially for dual sport. I'm not upset at GG, I have a GG Pro trials bike I'm happy with. I just think that what we are getting for our money is becoming unfavourable versus the KTM.

The 07 and newer KTM WP suspension is about as good as anything out there. Add the magic button, 2k3 and e-start with a street price $800 or more less and the GG doesn't look quite as good. I'm looking for an 07 but I don't know where to get one. If it comes to a decision between the 08 GG or an 08 KTM, my dollars will probably go to KTM, especially because I won't incur the additional cost of the 2k3 and flywheel.

I guess we will actually know what's happening when the bikes really show up.
