Fuel Tank Mounting Bolt

Anyone happen to know the size and thread pitch of the bolt that mounts the fuel tank to the frame (by the steering head)?

Mine seems to have gone missing after the ride Saturday; pulled the tank off so many times that I think I forgot to loctite it :o

Should be a 6mm.

M6 is right, length about 25mm

tank bolt

Its 6mm as previously noted. 1.0 thread pitch. Make sure you have a shouldered washer that fits thru tank, so you don't cause a leaking fuel tank. Something that will tighten up, but not compress the tank.. That was the original leaking point on my first 11' tank.

I would consider that bolt optional.

That's the reason the tank has been off so many times; have had two different new tanks shipped to me and neither fit, was going to just live with it, but the petcock wouldn't transfer either  I've re-sealed the split by that mounting point 3 different times now and it still leaks - not to mention all the fuel that comes out through the threads of the cap (even with the S3 cap).

Anyway, thanks for the info on the size and pitch guys - much appreciated :D I think finding the washer will be the hardest part; that size bolt is in stock at the local Ace.

Fuel Tank Mounting Bolt

I use this one that I had on my CRF250X

It works great because it does not suck the gas tank down tight to the frame which does cause stress on the tank and then eventually leak.

I put a bit of Blue Loc-Tite and mine and never had any problems loosing it.

The red electrical tape is there to add just a bit more thickness to fit snug on the gas tank.

i use a regular bolt with a wide shoulder and place a fat plastic washer under the tank which is glued to the frame so it doesnt get lost.
this way the tank is held firmy. i think the plastic washer was part was from a car oil drain plug. you can use just about anything though
