Get your pass for DNR riding

The new way Washington state is getting money . Starting July1st your bike hauling rig needs a $30 Discovery pass to go on DNR or WDFW land. Oh and if you have a dual sport you need a separate pass for that.

I am not to happy because if I haul my plated bike to DNR to ride I will have to spend $30 on my stupid duty and another $30 for my G.G.

They probably won't start writing tickets right away... The Forest Service tried this a few years ago. You had to get a forest pass to park at ANY trailhead. After a lot of complaints they changed so that only the popular ones required the pass.

I don't like paying to ride but with private land mostly closed the public lands are the only areas left.

I don't like it either. When we go camping we have the motorhome, a jeep, and the wifes car pulling the trailer with the bikes. Because it isn't a fee campground and we usually spend a week enjoying ourselves that's an extra $90 for "Discovery" passes on top of all other expenses. And the ORV community still doesn't get a dime.
And this is on top of our bikes that cost $27 (?) yearly for the ORV tags. I think this should have been one pass covers a family. Not per vehicle.

The article I read said they wouldn't be writing tickets right away. They would start an extensive "education campaign".

Yep Yep and Yep! We will pay for state parks no matter what.

Unsure still, does anyone know if this means another 30$ a year for a North West forest pass to ride Gifford, Evens creek, and others, for national forest parking, on top of this new discover pass for DNR land.

I think so, unbelievable.

The discover pass only covers state land. DNR and Fish and wildlife. The NW Forest pass through the USFS is separate. So to answer your question Roscoe you need both. One doesn't cover for the other.

I've noticed every time the government helps us get something back that we used to have for free it ends up costing more money. We will soon be working so many hrs to pay the fees we won't have time to ride.

The Discovery Pass is only needed for DNR managed lands. You will not need it for National Forest managed lands. So if you are riding at "*** National Forest" the pass is not needed.

My pass has a 16" bar on it.:D

waycrazy 05-17-2011 01:48 AM

Well put that 16" bar to use for 24hrs. of trail maintenance (volunteer work) and get a free pass.

Is that the deal now sounds good to me.Do they still have the log in for trail hours like before? Any links to that?
