Metal Chips on oil plug

Just did an oil change (every 5 hours) on my 2011 200ec 6 day and I had some metal chips/slivers on the magnet. Not the fine shavings, but slivers about .3mm x 5 mm. Never had any problems with this before. I know I shouldn't have but I tested it and went on a ride (I was kinda pissed and didnt care if I blew it up). No glitches on the ride, perfectly normal. No missed or rough shifts. No problem getting in gear. No weird sounds (except the Rekluse grind if I slipped the clutch too fast). Anyone else ever experience this...I guess the first step is to pop the clutch cover and see what I can see. Could this be from the clutch? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I doubt that this is from the clutch, as both clutch center and basket is non-magnetic aluminium, and I cannot understand how these fragments could come from the steel plates.
My guess is that is is from inside the gearbox somewhere, or perhaps the water pump area. Perhaps the time has come to split the cases and have a look inside the 'box?

How many hours has the bike done?

Probably over 150 hours on the bike I'd guess....I bought it used. I'm good with working on the top end but cracking the case may be out of my league and there are no Gas Gas dealers in Utah. I could pull the case and send it off for service, any advice on a good wrench?

After you take the jug off and pull the motor, a good deal of the work is done. There is a fairly comprehensive post here on splitting the cases.

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and Dogger 315

Nice three part series on splitting the cases. Very straight forward and easy to follow.

For much more detail then go to this link, scroll down to 1993 CR 250- Completed, then click each of the nine link sections for rebuilding CR 250 engine. This is Dogger 315?s build and it is much more detailed than a Honda factory manual with several tips and tricks. The basics will apply to your Gasser, I have a 2011 too.:D:D:D:D

Ok, once you have your transmission out, you should be able identify which parts are damaged. The trickier part will be trying to determine why they are damaged. If you post pictures here, then we should be able to help you determine the cause of the failure.

Can you post a picture of the slivers?

The GasGas has straight cut transmission gears, not uncommon to find slivers in the oil.
