Tank difference

Hi all.

2002 EC 300 tank part number is BE25001024

2007 EC 309 tank part number is BE25051024

Can anybody explain the difference please ??

Paul

The 02' tank basically goes up to the neck of the bike, covering the top of the frame. The 07' tank is lower profile and shorter on the top, it shows the frame of the bike between the top mount bolt and the neck of the bike. Also the 02' tank would have a recess in the bottom rear for the upper shock mount. The 07' tank can be used on the older bikes with a little work to the frame.

Thanks for your reply. Could you elaborate on 'a little work to the frame' please ??

#1 You need a plate to go between the old mount bolt on the top of the frame to the new tank mount hole. Or you can fab a plate and weld it to the frame for the new mount but not needed to do it that way.
#2 On top of the rear shock area there is a small frame work above the top shock mount, that needs to be removed so the tank can sit down into place since there's no recess in the newer tanks for that bridge.

Many thanks. This makes sense. May have to go this route if mine keeps leaking :mad::mad::mad:

As an aside.... Do these tanks come apart ?? i.e. does the black part at the top separate from the translucent section ?? Looks like a push fit mount or is it welded ??

Have included some pictures. Could you please indentify the offending part that needs removing :D:D (If visible ??)

Got it now. It is the recess in the rear underside of the black section of the tank. The later tank does not have the recess so the lug above the shock would need to be removed.
