Starter Polarity

Got a new starter, installed looking for happiness, hit the button and it just "whirs". I think the starter is going backwards.

When I remove the bendix cover & bendix and hit the button, the small gear that interfaces with the bendix goes clockwise. Can anyone confirm if that is the right direction?

And how does one properly reverse the polarity on a GG starter?

Thanks,

Jeff

I?ve previously fixed issues like this by rotating the brush plate 90 degrees in relation the motor. Has the centre section been fit up correctly?

On my '18 300 there is a line on the side of the body that needs to line up with marks on the end caps.

I am guessing he has bought a Ktm starter and they probably have different rotation.

I just got a new starter and it?s spinning the wrong way also. GG said that it?s an issue from the factory, but did they just send me a ktm starter instead of the right one? I do not see any lines on the body or end caps like my original starter.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was going to spin the center body of the starter 180 degrees, but my dealer called and said they got a bad batch from the factory and would be replacing it this week.

GG221 - You could try loosening the two long bolts and spinning the center cylinder body 180 degrees and see if it works - but I'm guessing your dealer will swap it out, and they may prefer that it comes back undisturbed?
