300GP/18 Cooling fan

Currently investigating which combination of rad guards and fan I could use. For testing I took a Spal fan which is the one KTM sells and also some other manufacturers (like Trail Tech) use in their fan kits.

Unfortunately the radiator hoses are in the way and I dont want to bend them back and then have them rubbing on the fan cage. On my mates bike we tried a slim fan which normally used to cool 12 volts power supplies. But it hasn't enuff power.

Anyone already solved/had the same problem?

have you tried the gasgas trials fan? I know with the older setup the radiator pipe would rest on the back of the fan, but it did not cause any issues

Many thanks, maybe will give it a try! :)

Is there any reason you need the fan?

Have they reduced the capacity of the rads for the 2018 models? Previous years have never had any issue with boiling over..

I think it depends where/what you ride. I agree the gg would boil much later than other brands, but if you are riding roof of Africa / erzberg type of climbs with lots of clutch and very littl flow you do need it - unfortunately once you have fitted a fan it had better work because it restricts the natural flow and the Bike will boil v quick if you forget to or can’t turn the fan on.

With the new frame and tank configuration of the 18s I would think the airflow is not as good as the older bikes with the tank restricting some flow (like the ktm’s) so it may be more of a requirement

If you do real hard enduro you just need one as swazi_matt said. If you need +30 minutes per 1 kilometer its good to have one. But its true the Gasser boils later than my 300 KTM/17

I've used mine for some free riding in nasty hilly country.. Getting nowhere fast! And only boiled it the times I've been jetted too lean. Of course it doesn't mean it can't happen given the right circumstances.

Just doesn't seem as commonly discussed here as it does on the orange bikes. Seen more than a few of them overheat on our normal loops.

Its obvious that the GG boils later than the pumpkin. I have installed a mini-PC fan now, let's see if its necessary.
