2005 EC 450 FSE Slipper Clutch Basket Wobble

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I recently picked up an 05 450 fse with the Adler slipper clutch. Upon inspection, I noticed the clutch basket has a noticeable amount of play in it when twisted like you would check a car wheel. As in pushing at 12 o'clock and pulling at 6 o'clock, and vice versa.

Is this normal? The play is definitely between the basket and the gearset as if the rivets are alittle too loose, not the needle bearings or races. I know some clutches have rubber dampers between the basket and backing plate, but not sure if this does and couldn't find any info on it. I've linked a video showing the movement. The wobble was the same when the clutch is fully put together.

If anyone else is taking one of these apart and doesn't have the special "assembly tools" specified in the shop manual, 3x 5mm x .8 x 45mm screws with washers will do the trick. Also, the main clutch nut takes a 30mm socket.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the site.

The internal dampeners are getting loose.
Doesn't look too bad.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you know if anyone sells just the dampers? Or is that only on aftermarket baskets?

I have no problem drilling out the rivets and tapping the backing plate for screws on the stock basket, but haven't been able to find replacement dampers.

I thought they were available genuine, pretty sure I have seen Hinson or similar replacement ones in the past too. The last time I did it was a while ago.
