Nice vid. Interesting location to shoot from. Never thought of that, I'm gonna try it. Thx for the inspiration.

Not a fan of overlaid music tracks on riding vids. I like to hear what the motor is doing to put it all into context. Just my preference.

Thanks for sharing.

Just curious as to what editing software that you use and what format you use to upload to YouTube - i.e. AVI, MP4?

I ask, as I've uploded to YT in 720HD WMV format in 16:9 and it gets converted to 4:3 after upload. Dunno why, but very frustrating. Any tips?

Here's an example of a YT 16:9 to 4:3 upload conversion - looks like crap!

Thx,

Jason,

For some reason the aspect ratio was changed, never had that problem but I don't use .WMV or .AVI. For Youtube you want to work with H.264 encoding in an .MP4 container file. .MOV is also OK if your encoding from Quicktime on a Mac. The X.264 encoder is best, and is found in the free and excellent Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip apps. Keep the settings simple for Youtube uploads, as the files are re-encoded anyway. Work with a constant bitrate of 5 to 8MBps for a 720p upload, any more is a waste and can cause problems with the YouTube encoder. I have values at home I can post later, but there are basic settings listed all over the net and in YouTube help. YouTube does look like crap compared to higher bitrate and profile encodes on your own machine or host.

Thanks for the info Glen.

I've been using Streamclip to convert the GoPro files from MP4 to AVI so that I can edit them using Windows Movie Maker, as MM does not support MP4 files. MM then publishes the movies as WMV files - you don't get a choice on this, thanks Microsoft.

I guess I have to stop being so cheap and just buy some editing software that works with MP4 files. I've got lots of cool videos, I just don't upload them to YT as it doesn't work well with the WMV format I've been using to create my movies.

I'll buy some software and go forward. This winter I've been doing some cool ice riding with studded tires, so I've got lots of good footage in the can for new movies.

Thanks again.
