2007 ec250 powervalve question

Hi I just picked up a 2007 ec250, I noticed a rattle when the rpms are coming down. I read about adjusting the powervalve. when I pulled the pipe off the bike I noticed the powervalve was covered in carbon and I'm able to wiggle the valve back and forth in the cylinder, about an 1/8in either way. Is the normal or is there something that can be tightened or replaced, thanks

HI, I have a 2004 EC300. When I first got it I had the same rattle that you describe.

When I removed the exhaust and stuck my finger up the exhaust port I could move the power valve from left to right quite a lot and replicate the same rattle.

I removed the power valve bearing and installed a shim (well just a washer really) to limit the side to side movement but not eliminate it completely, I didn't want to risk it binding.

This reduced the nasty rattle but not completely. A few weeks later I removed the cylinder head/barrel and found the piston and rings were badly worn, really badly worn, the piston rings end gap was 2.0mm! After replacing the piston kit I then had a really quiet motor with no nasty rattles and loads of compression!

So my advice would be to try shimming the power valve, if you still have a rattle pull off the head/cylinder and check the piston and rings.

1. Put your foot in the chamber front when you rev it. Add more Springs and new manifold ORings if so. Plus other 2 mounts.

2. So you adjusted out the slop of the lever? Mine was rubbing the wire against the wall of the tube and the lower lever was hitting the case when in bottom position.

The valve will move around a bit and helps keep it from seizing. You can and should pop it out occasionally and remove the carbon . There's instructions on the main site. It's easy when you work out 1. Melt the nyloc screw then replace. 2. After making a special screw in puller I read and realised that you can just push stuff out from the other side. Doh.

Retained the tool in valiant defiance that it might get used for something.
