Advice sought - used Nambotin purchase (EC300)
Hi all,

I'm after advice and views on purchase of a second hand 2011 Nambotin 300. I've a few questions and would very much appreciate advice from those on this forum. Also, this is my first post, so apologies in advance if I have this in the wrong place!

My first questions relates to the interchangeability of parts between the Nambotin and a standard EC 300. Given there were only 200 Nambotin replicas made, I a have some concerns as to the availability of spares in the future. Is this something I need to worry about or will EC parts fit?

Secondly, I'd be keen to get the views of members on whether this is an appropriate bike for me. Most of my experience has been on a XR650R, and mostly open desert or fire trail. I want something small, light, quick off the mark and reliable. Other options I've considered are the 'Berg and KTM 300 2 strokes. I have ridden these, and like them, but they are not exactly unusual and the hit off the pipe can be a bit sharp when coming from a 4 stroke. (I am 40YO, 220 lbs and 6'3" and have been away from riding for about 4 years)

Finally, price. The Nambotin that my friend is selling is a 2011 with 4500 km on it. It's recently had the top end done. He is a good mate and I have faith in his regular maintenance. He wants AUD$8000 for it. For that I could get 2012 Husaberg with 20 hours on the dial in near new condition. The Nambotin is NOT new, but has been soundly maintained (but ridden by someone who rides like a demon).

Great bike, and no issues with parts cross overs or spares. The 2011 came with the 48mm CC Marzocchis which are great to ride, and easy to work on. The TTX shock is a nice piece of kit too.

In saying that, the biggest downfall of the gassers (if you can call it that) is the poor resale. Given its a Nambo it should fetch a little more than a base model, but how much more? I know of other 2011 models sold recently with fresh engines, well maintained, tuned etc that went for well under.

If you like the bike and think the price is fair, then nothing stopping you, but in contrast, I bought a brand new 0km 2013 model late last year for a reduced 'clearance price'. I don't think I'd get 8G for that now (being realistic).

If you are used to an xr650, definately get a 300 or you will miss the power to get you out of trouble lofting the wheel etc. if you have been riding such a monster the 300 will feel like a mountain bike and you'll fall quickly in love with it. If you still just going to be mainly riding desert it might not be the best choice, a four stroke 450 fits that landscape but for general trail riding in single/two track the 3 hunge is hard to beat.

I bought a used nambo for far less. No special part fitment. Has different suspension and cylinder head than others.

We are in Australia though, so our prices are always going to sit a few grand above what you see in the states. That applies from brand new through to second hand market.
