EC250 2001 Setup

Hi all,

I'm new to Gas Gas and have to say after my first ride today on the new machine I am a convert.

However the bike is very firm and harsh for me. As far as I know all valving and springs etc are stock.

I'm 65KG without gear and I'm thinking the stock spring rate may be to heavy for me but even so I find that the damping is far to harsh in the stock positions.

I'm just wondering if anyone would have any relevant info or specific setups for this bike.

Cheers,

I assume you have wound clickers in and out to find out what is better?

Do you have WP forks and Ohlins shock?
This baseline data is for a 165 lb (75kg) C-rider, stock springs and valving in forks and shock.
Handy data provided by C-Cycle, a well respected suspension tuner in New England. The chart is a nice little bonus that comes with their service.

Hope this helps. Symptom chart in next post.
Interested to see any comments about the charts.

Dean I have a 2001 xc250 that has C-cycle decals on the forks & shock. I called them to see if there was any record of work done to the bike and he said no, just my luck. I have no idea of who or what ability it was set up for since the PO was a kid with not much info on the bike. I changed the fork oil/ bushings & left the shock alone. It feels very good but I'm sure it can get better with some adjustment. I'm going to try the settings from your charts this weekend and see if it feels any smoother. My current settings are not balanced front to rear according to this. Thanks for the info, I should have asked sooner!

Thanks for the info guys, I will have a play around and see if I can get it working alright, failing that I'll pull it apart and re valve it. The Rear seems fine but the front is a nightmare!

Hi again,

Well I went for a good blast yesterday and had a play with the suspension. The further I went out on the clicks the better the bike got but it is still very harsh over big bumps (tree roots this time) and now I have the clicks out there is far to little control at low speed movements. A little bit of me is wondering if my road racing background is trying to ask to much of the suspension on harsh bumps or if this is just what mxers feel like when hitting stuff at pace. Either way I might have a play and pull the forks and shock apart and play with some oil weights and shim stacks and see what I can get.

Cheers,

-Sketchy
