is the 2012 shock different than the 2011 and earlier?
ohlins website seems to only show this GG 1282 shock.

GG 1182 be the 2011 and earlier shock?

It most definitely is.

They are different lengths, use different clevises, and also have some other internal design changes. I compared the spec cards back when I was shopping for a TTX for my 2010. I think I got the last GG1182 that was floating around and its now unavailable.

A shop in California has about 5 for the 2011 and older , for full retail
