2018 KYB shim stacks

Hi, has anyone had their '18 fork apart & if so, what did you find inside shims-wise, particularly comp valve stack?

Time to be a pioneer gibnut!

You find the compression needs to be softened up? I’m running 2 clicks in from full soft and it still deflects on low speed rocks really bad

How about spring rates? I am running .44 spring rate in the KYB's on my 2011 250. When I do an oil change on the 2018 forks I am going to swap one of the .42 springs for a .46. .42 stock seems like a pretty light spring rate unless you are a very light or slow rider. Just my 2 cents.

I personally do not want to start re-valving until I have the spring rates correct and then I will work with the compression and rebound adjustments. My initial impression is that the stock valving is very close for my conditions, which vary from fast rocky to slow technical rocky (Arizona).

I am also interested to see what the oil volume is in the outer chamber. I am running 300cc in my 2011 and that seems to help with plushness on the lower speed stuff...

anyone know if the GG kyb's are the same as the yz kyb's in relation to caliper mounts, axle sizes etc?

(basically asking if you could just swop a yz front end into the 18GG?)

For what it's worth; I have been told that a 17 GG fork (hence almost any 48mm GG fork) will fit the 2018 triples and vice versa. But I have no real knowledge in the matter, I haven't tried, not even measured.
But in a week or two, I will have my mate's 2018 in my workshop for tire change, I presume. Then I could take some measurements and compare them to my 2015. If that is of any interest.

Won’t work. The lugs are different on the bottom.

You might want to try increasing the rebound damping to combat the deflection.
