Euro Spec vs. USA Spec EC's - What's the diff?
 

What's the difference, if any, between the Euro & USA EC models?

I'm especially interested in the answer to this question as pertains to '05
EC 200's, since that's the bike I've got.

Somebody slap me if I'm wrong, but I beleive the only difference between US and EU EC's is that the US models don't have turn signals, but the wires are there for it. Otherwise the EC's are the same. You may not have the catalytic on the US model either. If you have a plated pipe - GG, Messico, Doma or FMF you don't have the catalytic. If you have a black steel pipe, you may have the catalytic. (They came in a bag with all the US EC's. I don't think any US dealers installed them. Mine became a shop paperweight.)

The US only, DE model is quite a bit different from the EC. Some DE's came with odo/speedos and headlights, some didn't. Kind of an MC/EC hybrid. Lighter igniton, fewer wires in the wiring harness, no turn signal wiring, etc. The MC is a stripped down motocross ready bike with a stiffer suspension setup.

We should really have someone do a good write-up on the differences between the XC, EC, DE and MC and make a sticky or something. This is a very commonly asked question on this site.

Is there any difference in the weight of the flywheel between US & Euro EC's?
I've heard that US models have a lighter flywheel and are threfore a little zippier,
but a little less tractable.

As Barkeater mentioned, only the DE's get the lighter ignition (flywheel). The EC's are the same except for the items he noted.
