Two Way Com Systems for 2 plus Riders
I want to buy a com system so I can talk to one or two riding buddies as we moto through some single track. I thought that the safety advantages would be well worth the investment. However, I don't know where to start looking for a reliable system.
Can some of the electronic experts offer suggestions on a system? |

I have a lot of street rider friends that use the SENA systems. Spendy though.

PTT or voice activated? I can't imagine that a voice activated system would be any good while riding, because you would hear every single grunt, breath and "oh shi.." from your friends. And having a PTT somewhere on the bars would seem to be a distraction as you try to not die while chatting with another rider.
I would look at simple two-way radios with earpieces so you can chat if you get separated. But while riding on the street they are really useful, although I can't imagine using one at speed (even my turtle pace) in the woods. Radio Ear piece |
As pscook mentioned, two-way radios (or walkie talkies as we like to call them) are really useful. We do use them regularly, but without the ear pieces. I just strap it with a zip tie on the backpack buckles. Mostly useful when we are lost, or one of us falls and/or needs help.
