Need help to register GG450fse for ROAD use

:confused:HI guys has anyone out there registered their bike for the street ,I am having nothing but trouble  it seems Gas Gas didnt give them the proper designation when they are imported to North America and even though they have all the bells and whistles for the street it does not appear on the travel registries list of approved street use bikes .I don't know what to do.

It is the VIN that is making your life miserable. If the 10th digit in your VIN is a letter instead of a number you arent getting a street plate under any circumstance. The non-conforming VIN gets kicked out of the Ministries computer systems and wont accept a street registration.

Sorry, but thats the way it is. I learned the hard way as well.

You cannot street plate a new Gasser in Ontario and BC now as well.

If you bought one that was already street plated, you probably could do it again, but if it is a new registration, it isnt happening.

HHmmm. I called a registry and they said they did not care if the bike was street legal or not and that there was no list of approved bikes, that if it was new that they would register it and that its up to me to make the bike street legal and the cops to enforce if its not. But the VIN has to be 17 characters.

The vin is 17 digits, just nonconforming.

When I had to register my 00 ec200 the registry typed in GASG and it popped up no prob. then with my 02 ec250 it was GAZ and on my 05ec250 GGMA. The only thing they couldnt find the book value.

Nick, what part is non conforming?

PS: The skid plate looks great. I'll have a check out tomorrow. Thanks, Bill.

AS scotty said its the 10th digit. When i licensed mine they had to enter it manually through a process not normally used.

A North American Spec vehicle is supposed to have a specific sequence in the VIN where the 10th digit is the model year. ie an 07 bike will have a "7" in the 10th digit.

Pre-07 US spec Gassers and all Euro spec bikes have a letter in the 10th digit which screws up a lot of DMV computers. It is IMPOSSIBLE to street plate a new GasGas in many Canadian provinces with the old VIN sequence. You can sometimes slide a US spec bike past the MTO but it is getting tougher every day.

I got my 08 EC300 street plated in Ontario but it was a bit on the "grey" side for sure. I had to register it as a "GG Moto" not a Gas Gas.

It actually is possible to get a GasGas plated in Canada. You need to get the vehicle inspected at a designated facility, and you may also need to get an assigned VIN from the provincial government. My 07 EC250 has a non-conforming VIN but with inspection papers I was able to get it registered and plated for street use. It was a month of headaches to get the papers, but I did manage to get it done (I needed it for the ISDE last year).
