180 CCA battery on 2018 300?

Has anybody tried putting a stronger battery in an 18 to make the starter work better? I was told it comes with a 110 CCA battery which isn?t enough but if you put in a battery with more cold cranking amps it will start every time, even when cold

Mine has a 215cca battery in it. It helped the starting but it will never be truly fixed until the CDI is remapped and the positive and negative battery cables are swapped out for larger ones

Are you referring to the updates that the dealers were supposed to do? If so, that is done.

Yes. Make sure they upgraded the positive cable too. When my CDI was remapped, they sent a larger positive cable back with it. Never had an issue since

There is something funny between bikes. Mine has never failed to start on the tiny stock battery. Wonder if it is a bad batch of batteries or starters.

What kind of battery and where did you get it from?

The starting problems have nothing to do with the battery. My GP300 has the problem and it plays no role which battery I use. Even with a power pack with which you can start a Tiger tank after it was parked for 74 years, the GG starter makes a whining noise and would not crank.

As said before, thicker cables may help. After I installed them and an additional cable between the iginition coil's ground and the starter bracket, it was better but not perfect. I start it with the kicker first, then when the engine is warm the problem is gone. I can live with that.

My 19 EC 300 has the new ignition system and different negative/positive cables, about three times thicker than the 2018's plus a stronger battery. The problem is gone though I replaced the stronger and bigger battery with a tiny 2018 one.

My dealer just replaced my battery under warranty, it was an Anti-gravity 230 CCA. The ECU had been reflashed, positive cable replaced pretty much worked every time I hit it yesterday, which was a lot! 50 miles of hardcore, slick rock infested, hilly trail which took all the new off of my bike. But I am pleased with the performance of the starter.

Co-incidentally, I started a similar thread in the GasGas Enduro FB page.

What brand, physical size and cold cranking amps would you recommend to maximize space and starting power?

Not sure what the best brand is but the Anti-gravity 230 CCA just fits into the battery box, it's very tight in fact I needed to remove the padding I put under the stock battery to keep it from rattling around.
Seems to work good with only requiring a seconded stab of the starter from time to time.
