Snapped off foot peg-fix

Last weekend we had a group ride, about 16 riders.

As usual, it became a full out race.

I went for the pass to get the lead. I hit a tree stump with my right foot peg.
It then snapped off and fell off.
The foot peg pin was bent and the head broke off. The bottom lug on the frame broke off.
I was able to mount it back up and ride back to the truck.:(

Here is my fix!!

Bought a 2009 YZ125 foot peg bracket.

Frame damage.

Ground off broken tab.

I cut the YZ foot peg bracket and fashioned a new lug.

I'll meet with my welder over the weekend to complete the repair.
Moral of the story (IMO), don't run cast foot pegs. The OEM peg would have bent and not damage the frame.

Lucky your foot didn't get broken off, with the bike parts.

Just by 2nd nature, I always pick my foot up when approaching a stump-The ones I see.:D

My riding buddy broke his foot this weekend at the Loretta Lynn trail ride. He caught it on a stump!

I lift my foot too usually if I see it. I have a friend that didn't see a stump behind a shrub and it dislocated two of his toes bad enough to push the bone back through the skin. Gross.

He was just happy to see the boot was intact. That way at least he still had all the parts of his foot to put back together...

Good fix. I have a fix/mod I'm going to do when and if this ever happens? Plan on replacing like you did with the YZ mount, but grind off the entire peg mount from the gasser and replace with the entire YZ mount. But add the Trail tech kick stand to it since it bolts to the foot peg mount, it should work with a little bit of coaxing?

Keep your toes up :-)

I went to a ride/race long ago, I forget where (maybe mt st helens 100?) and got some great advice at the rider's meeting.... In one area there were lots of stumps hidden by low ferns. At the rider's meeting - they strongly suggested "keep your toes up".

If you hit a stump with your toes up - the footpeg will fold back and your foot will get knocked backwards.

If you hit a stump with your toes down - it prevents the footpeg from folding back - the downward force on impact will lock the footpegs downward and lock your feet in place. Before the footpeg breaks - other bones in your foot will...

That always stuck in my mind - so whenever riding in an area with stumps I very consciously ride "toes up"... Same thing when riding along a side hill where your peg is getting close to the upward side of the hill.

This isn't me - I found this on video on youtube But here is a trail I know where I would ride "toes up". Stand on pegs in neutral position - don't be back on bike - you want to be able to let your leg be kicked to the back if it impacts something without pushing you off the bike...

Watching this does remind me that I *really* do need to get out on the trail. it has been *too* long...

Got the bracket welded on.
I did have to get the YZ foot peg pin, as the YZ bracket is wider.

Just needs some red rattle can paint.
