Tranny oil for 00 GG 250 MC?
I just purchased this bike, which is in great condition for the age. I love the bike (which is set up for woods riding), but I'm not sure whats the best oil to use for optimal clutch protection. Any suggestions?
Thanks |
I use Amsoil 0W-40 4 stroke engine oil. Its great for winter and has no clutch drag.

I've had good luck with Rotella diesel oil.
15w-40. Castrol 2 stroke trans oil is also good. |
A lot of us run Shell Rotella T Synthetic SAE 5W-40 .

Thanks for input. I tried Spectro Clutch Saver 10w30 and the counter shaft seal started leaking after a 3 minute test run!! I let it sit for few hours, ran it again at a very slow pace, the leak seemed to quit, but doubt that will last. Is this sudden leak that immediately following this oil change due "switching" to a different oil?? The prior owner of this bike ran Castrol 20w50. I rode the bike on three short trail rides (maybe 15 miles each) with no leaks until I changed the oil using Spectro 10/30.
Sorry guys, but I probably should not have posted this thread in this location, but I haven't figured out how to edit and move this to the right spot. |
If the Castrol was a non-sythetic oil and the Spectro is then this is normal. I find if i run fully sythetic in my old bikes it makes leaking happen every where. Wich ushally means bad gasket seal or just a bad seal. I bet if you use a noraml oil the leak would stop.

thanks 2strokes4life. I'll switch back and see what happens.

No problem. Report back and tell me if it is not leaking after the switch.
