"O-Ring or NON-"O"Ring
 

I will be updating my chain and sprockets soon on my YZ 125 project bike and currently it is running a non-o ring chain.

Is a 520 "O" or "Z" ring sealed chain too heavy for a 125? The Husky's and GasGas I would assume be fitted with a OEM style sealed chain.

I know that the sealed chains last much longer, but is the drag and weight worth the investment for a 125?

I keep my bikes really clean, well maintained and proper chian maintenance is part of my program.

Again, just fishing for a different points of view.

We have always run DID X-ring chains on our 125's. Their is a thinner model specifically for mx bikes with non-o-ring chains stock. VT2 Racing Chain with X-Ring? Technology

From what ive read, the people who actually know about this sort of thing, say there is no power loss from a sealed chain once it is 'warmed' up.

If you say you can tell the difference, I wouldn't go as far as to call you a liar, but I would tend to disagree :D

Congrats on the bike Rick! Does the '05 have the alloy frame and CC fork or was that '06?

We ran the Xring on a GG125 with no issues. Non-oring chain wouldn't last long at all here.

Yes, alloy frame and the forks are the KYB (AOS) Air Oil Seperated, pretty much a twin chamber fork.

I hate to dig up an old discussion...but in the need to replace my chain in the near future.

Have any of you purchased Enduro Engineering's chains?

Single track
Rocks, dirt, some sand and WATER & MUD (Yes it rains in WA) ;-)

This is for my 125, so I went with a DID 520 non "O" / "X"ring chain. I keep up on my maintenance really good, so I decided I would try a standard type chain and really see how much life / hours I get out of it. Time will tell.

As for the EE chains, never used one, I have used CZ, DID, EK & Regina chains, with the Regina lasting the longest.

What ever you do, don't waist your money on PB or Sprocket Specialist rear sprockets:(

On my GasGas EC 200 I have had really good luck with AFAM aluminum rear / Talon c/s. I know Dirt Tricks are the bomb......

There has been a lot of "research" done on rmatv "primary drive brand" chains on Australian forums, with the result that they last really really well and after initial break in don't require excessive adjustment. They are way cheap.

125s are a lot easier on driveline parts too. I just put a Regina oring chain on my son's KX125 I had as a spare. An open chain would be shot in a few weeks here. Also a Primary Drive rear sprocket, we will see how it lasts.
